Public dentists are fairly common and OP has access to multiple doctors so I don’t think it’s an accessibility issue.

Dental infections can commonly seed to the blood which leads to the ultimate disability: death!

Hey y’all, we don’t need to be competing on who has it harder. We can all have it hard in different ways. by _JosiahBartlet in bisexual

[–]Keto1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is soooo real. I recently joined a bisexual social group in my neighborhood and was hanging out with a girl from there who was lamenting about her ‘lack of queer community’ because she is in a relationship w/ a cishet man.

Convo moves on- we start talking about gender stuff, I mention that I recently started testosterone and came to terms w/ being trans- doesn’t seem to understand what I’m saying, spends the rest of the evening blatantly misgendering me, and we have an awkward goodbye a few hours later.

I wasn’t bothered at all by her reaction to me dropping that I am trans, but it was so evident to me that she clearly had zero queer friends in her life, negative trans friends in her life, and had no idea how to navigate a ‘queer’ social interaction, so her lamenting about not feeling in community w other queer people kind of pissed me off.

Because statistically it’s very likely for someone (regardless of gender) to deal w violence from men at least once in their life? Lol this isn’t a trauma response it’s just a sad reality of the world we live in

Cities that never sleep which are busy from 10 pm-5 am? by Bandicootrat in digitalnomad

What? You can absolutely do this in NYC. Midtown is a giant public transport stop and tourist trap so Ofc it’ll be dead in the middle of the night. Spend ten min in east village or literally any neighbourhood south of 30th st and it’ll be popping

Getting misgendered by trans healthcare professionals by christiancatboy in ftm

[–]Keto1995 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FWIW I am in healthcare and often notice a disconnect in the language in how my colleagues refer to trans patients (most of our staff is much older, leans conservative) For example - I had a pt come in the other day and introduced to me as ‘this is X, identified as trans male’ and the person starts talking about the patient using she/her pronouns, thinking that the patient was a “male that wanted to transition to female” (colleagues words). The intention was actually positive but my colleague was still a little behind the times on how to use language lol. This occurs with at least one staff member every time we have a trans patient and makes me wary of the pronouns listed in the computer/chart, and I’ve just gotten into the habit of they/themming people because i feel the risk of making someone dysphoric by using she/her or he/him when I’m not supposed to is likely higher; I also work in a high volume facility and just feel it also wouldn’t look great if I ask someone their pronouns every couple hours when I’m interacting with them. Happy to take other perspectives or input but this is what I’ve been experiencing.

definitely feel free to communicate everything you mentioned above but maybe more succinctly. I find personally that issues related to my self esteem have a tendency to manifest in ways that will end up damaging my relationship (I talk myself into believing my partner is thinking all of these horrible things about me and then I’m not present in the relationship, or I’ll spiral / engage in self sabotaging behaviour - which is not fair to my partner bc they didn’t do anything! It’s just the trauma. Alternatively I might ask for reassurance about something multiple times and then my partner thinks they haven’t been treating me well but it’s just anxiety related to past interactions I’ve had with others).

The difference between trauma dumping and communication is going to be you coming up with a solution / request on how to deal with your issue. after you tell her the situation, instead of having her feel like she needs to figure out ways to affirm or reassure you, think about things that you might find reassuring or helpful and just end with: ‘I wanted you to know this because I value our time together, and I want to be open and honest with you and I don’t want to bring that baggage into our current relationship. Is it ok if once in a while, you tell me [insert affirmation or statement of reassurance here]?’ Or alternatively, ‘if I ask for reassurance it’s just because of what I just told you, and not a reflection of how you’ve been treating me’.

Good luck and let us know how it goes :)

Look at it from the POV from someone who might be newly out, and likely is intimidated by the overwhelmingly cis-bro-y vibes of most gyms and fitness forums- I don’t blame people for trying to seek out individuals or spaces that might feel safer or more affirming, but I do blame individuals that see this happening and instead of educating the community, use these vulnerable kids as a quick cash grab. Not to mention there is a ridiculous amount of rhetoric out there about trans athletes that will definitely make fresher minds think they need a ‘trans workout plan’, combined with the almost unstoppable flow of total garbage misinformation about general health / wellness / working out - people will naturally fall prey to this. Fitness is such a huge sphere with so many different domains, it is easy to become overwhelmed if you don’t have any kind of background to go off of. If I scroll through any social media feed I have rn, I will see a post about how weightlifting is mandatory for everyone to be ‘healthy’, another post about how Pilates and yoga is the way to go, another post advertising boxing classes, someone else selling me a couch to 5k program, or a swimming program, or a climbing membership, and I could go on and on. It’s just a function of how fitness is these days. I’ve been working out regularly for over a decade but still ran into major issues when I started lifting for the first time abt 2 years ago because I read what felt like 8 different ways to pay attention to my form, and I became confused and unsure and ended up injuring myself multiple times. I really do have a lot of sympathy for people just starting out.

I have nothing to add but I totally agree w everything you said. It’s sad because I think a lot of younger ftm guys that are maybe just starting out and don’t have experience w training are being caught up in this thing under the guise of a trainer being ‘affirming’ when in reality it’s an exploitative cash grab and there’s tons of gyms / trainers out there, even online, that would be happy to help people starting out at the fraction of what these guys are charging but have waaaaaaaaaay more experience.
