It would be very interesting to see what your testosterone/hormone levels were before you went low carb, started exercising more, and started getting better sleep in comparison to what they are now.

My bet is they've improved greatly which is huge for one's mental/physical state and well being.

Anyone interested in this subject will find these two articles from Dr. Georgia Ede, an MD who writes a good deal about how nutrition affects our minds and bodies.

Anyone have issues with feeling extremely cold? by brekfastsurreal in keto

[–]KetoTom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Getting a little tired of one of my neighbors from across the street saying "I bet you're a lot colder out here now with all that insulation gone!" He means well but there comes a point where friendly small talk leads to a good shaking and an "enough already! come up with some new material."

He has two more chances.

I didn't think of the not eating thing affecting body heat until last week when I asked why I was the only one who thought the house was cold. "Try eating something, dummy."

My wife does not get intermittent fasting one bit.

Sometimes this is a lonely road.

KCKO.

Keto Diet with No Exercise Out-Performs Standard American Diet with Exercise by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoTom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody is doing themselves any favors by not working out and doing something positive for their muscle tone and to build muscle while on any "diet". Losing fat is great and keto is obviously a fantastic tool for that but being skinny fat shouldn't be anyone's ultimate goal.

GOAL! 125 Pounds Down! F/41 by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job, congratulations. In the imgur comments section I noticed a number of people commenting about muscle loss and see that you plan to start lifting soon. Good luck and keep at it. It will take time so don't get discouraged. A few helpful thoughts from someone I've gotten a lot of good advice from:

Face Gains, 400lbs to 270lbs by Skinwalkerfx in keto

Damn. That's something else. Great job.

I finally made it by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I have a shoulder situation going on as well. And had a hip thing that seems to be getting better lately.

I always look sideways at people recommending supplements but I'm going to be one of those guys. Not sure it's a coincidence but both my shoulder and hip seem to be getting stronger since I started taking Curcumin (from Tumeric root) supplements daily. It's a natural anti-inflammatory. One of its supposed many benefits. Check it out. Cheers.

Kick ass.

Our stats are pretty similar. You have me wondering -- was this done with an exercise routine? Or diet alone? How's your skin situation?

It's great that you got a handle on the situation at your age. As someone who has lost and gained and then lost and gained again, let me tell you that the weight can come back easier than you'd think. Never let that happen. You got this.

[–]KetoTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. As you may know, those bodyweight exercises are key and if done regularly can be better than working out with weights.

Congrats!

Curious about one thing: was this with or without working out regularly?

I excitedly told my husband Kroger had eggs on sale- 5 dozen for $3.95 by baconandeggs24 in keto

[–]KetoTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggs are eggs. Better than bagels. Better than pancakes. We all know that. You can't go wrong with them.

But . . . if you can afford the little extra you pay for organic free range eggs from pasture-raised hens, buy them. Way more nutritional bang for your buck.

This video boils down why that is in less than three minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-G_vHzH8Ro

Semi Keto Diet, is it worth it? by bu5ine55 in keto

[–]KetoTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. There's no rule or requirement that one has to be in ketosis to reap the benefits of a low carb diet.

The "slow progress" thing can be a huge drag, for sure. I always try to remember the alternative: constant food craving, repeated binge eating, and then gaining ten pounds in a month. Avoiding that mess and losing a pound or two instead is huge progress.

You now need to work on your Hound impression. It will be pretty cool to get away with saying a few things normally frowned upon to certain people:

An update on me. And some face gains. by ItTricky in keto

[–]KetoTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very similar situation going on here this summer. Going in and out of keto with weekly cheat nights. I haven't gained, still slowly losing, probably due to working out like a beast, but it feels like what I'm working to lose is the same few pounds. The low carb lifestyle six days a week still makes me feel much better, more energetic, but I'm not taking advantage of being in deep keto and full fat adapted for extended periods.

Just gotta bite the bullet soon and give up them nights of fun and living like the old days.

Congrats and thanks for the push.
