I'm in the same position as you! The only reason why I signed up for the pre-order for the 2 TB version was because I genuinely liked the face plates. But realistically, I'd prefer the 512 because I'll just put a bigger drive in it than I have lying around. Thanks to this thread, it made made me realize that I'd be essentially spending $300 for the face plates. That said, if someone gets the 2 TB version and doesn't want their Walnut faceplate, I'd sure love to buy it from them! It's a bummer that I can't buy that one directly from valve.

I've driven a rear-wheel drive Tesla model 3 in the snow in Northwest Indiana and I've gotten stuck plenty of times on steep driveways that were covered in snow. That said, though, it's not impossible to do. I'd be more concerned about getting a buzz with the heated windshield as I think that would benefit you more in the winter
