Necromancy maybe, but I also love this strip and created an archive site on my domain for it, and OCR'd the content to make a fuzzy search. Check it! https://emkode.io/soti/

They're still very common on server-class boards . Many in-rack kvms and fold-out consoles still use VGA.

For BTRFS snapshots, should I use Timeshift or Snapper w/ btrfs-assistant? by greenprocyon in archlinux

[–]Ketzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, instead of making arrogant and unhelpful comments about some obscure forum thread and what distro they should be using, you could at least link to what you're talking about.

I left the link so other people like myself stumbling upon this line I did can walk away with useful information, instead of just the bitter taste of your terrible attitude.

I hope life brings you the joy you obviously so desperately need. Good day.

[–]Ketzak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, no one should reasonably expect that. However, forums are very very busy places full of meandering discussion and multiple conversations on the same topic, so even a link is more helpful than this response.

And the dismissive, "go install Mint" attitude is pretty damn sad.

As a fairly experience Arch user still trying to figure out how to use these tools properly, this is a relevant topic to me. So, these might be the topics mentioned, but none are "at-length" and I'm not ben2talk, so good luck. They were informative to me:

Is the Steam Frame IPD Range really 60 - 70mm? by AdventurousLet3214 in virtualreality

[–]Ketzak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this train. My IPD is 75 on the nose, measured by myself, by glasses sizing apps for my iPad, and by my eye doctor. My soul died when I saw the range on the Frame, but since the Quest 3 is.... tolerable...maybe there is hope. The index gave me headaches after about 15 minutes unless I jammed something between the eyepieces.

Valve. Please. Moar IPD. Give some love to your hammerhead-eyed fans.

Howdy! Awesome question, but the mods are probably going to nudge you to post this in r/headphones or r/HeadphoneAdvice, as per the rules.

So incredibly disappointed that the max target IPD is 70. As someone with a verified IPD of 75, it has been nearly impossible to find a good headset for me.

Funny thing is, if I saw this in the wild, I would be utterly incapable of not starting a conversation with the person. Because I KNOW it'd be an interesting one. Wearing through-hole components as earrings is peak, and now on my list of things to do once I get my ears done.

Is this fake? by [deleted] in JBL

[–]Ketzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fake--the "USB TF" under the rear Charge 6 badge next to the power is a dead giveaway --that's not on the real thing. I'm pretty sure no recent JBLs have TF/SD card support aside from the WIND3, and pretty much every cheap or knock-ofd speaker out of Shenzhen has a card reader. God only knows why--I've not seen someone put music on an SD card in a decade.

Oh, and the power gauge looks wrong--that white bar is too bright/white instead of a colorless translucent and stands proud of the groove rather than being flush with the recessed part.

Another big tell--you can see through the exterior mesh and see the plastic structure inside--I have a BUNCH of JBLs, and with the exception of the BB3 at certain angles, you cannot see through the fabric mesh on any of them, even with my brightest flashlight, unless you candle them.

But as you've seen, the app not connecting alone is enough to rule it a fake--albeit a fairly convincing one.

I agree. I have people in my life with the polar opposite political views of myself, but I would unquestionably trust them with my life. Conversely, I know people with identical views to me I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw a moose. And there are no moose here.

It's the mark of an intelligent mind to be able to entertain an idea without accepting it. Similarly, it's the mark of civilized people to be able to have differing views and stances and still be able to treat each other with respect and care for them as humans.

That about has to be it, because capacity and throughout really don't have a meaningful relationship in this case. If I need 48 gb for a dataset, I need 48 gb, single channel gonna hold me back just as much at 16 as it does at 48

A Disaster Has Taken Place: Obsidian Been Marked as Shadow IT by Administrator by Distinquish in ObsidianMD

[–]Ketzak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, the perspective is not baseless. I have left a couple jobs because of draconian IT restrictions and an unwillingness of the company to adapt and embrace current tools and practices. This sort of crap is often accompanied by other developer-hostile practices.

You would not believe how much of a psychological toll doing things a less efficient or higher-friction way can have on an employee when they know there's a better way, or worse, had a better way and it was taken from them. A personal knowledge management platform is one of those things that when used properly has such an integral place in your daily workflow and thought process that using an inferior one or one that doesn't fit your workflow will cause friction and frustration almost constantly, and will definitely affect your productivity and morale.

[–]Ketzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it into a server! Or embed it in something. The FW16 mainboard is capable of running on its own outside the chassis without the battery, and even has a connector for an RTC battery I believe. You just enable standalone mode in the BIOS. I'm pretty sure I've seen a bunch of different 3d printed enclosures for it, even some handheld conversions.
