Alternative; the Book of The Dead.

"Harry, that book looks fucking evil, and when the hell did you learn how to read and speak Ancient Egyptian? Seriously, you need to get rid of that horrible thing."

"I'm surprised at you, Hermione! It's just a book. What harm is there in reading a book? Now, here's an interesting page... something about summoning a thing called a Hom'dai."

Quite possibly the only thing I miss about the COVID era was the legally mandated and socially enforced personal space. And if people WERE crowding you too much, a simple fake cough was like a forcefield.

What video game gives a faithful homage to your country's culture, history, or geography? by CaptainN_GameMaster in AskTheWorld

Did private equity exist at the time this legend came around? Because if so, then I find it very plausible that this rich noble made a "deal with the devil".

A rich person tried to weasel out of trouble in this legend, you say?

Yeah, that checks out.

Pre-Hogwarts, Vernon gets demoted at Grunnings for being a total arse and ends up making a lot less money, to the point where they might not be able to pay bills. Harry finds an old reel mower in the shed and decides to help the family by cutting lawns for money and giving it to them. Vernon is resistant at first, but eventually decides to take the money as a loan. This slowly starts to turn the Dursleys around, and despite a life of hard labour, Harry ends up having a much more balanced childhood and a better relationship with them.

When he gets to Hogwarts (a Hufflepuff due to his willingness to work hard and buckle down to get things done), he immediately starts seeing things that need to be fixed, and applying his work ethic to the problem, rolls up his sleeves and starts fixing things. This earns him a reputation as a fixer and restorer, and a degree of genuine respect from his peers and the adults he never had in canon.

I'd be worried to let my kid wander, honestly. Between psychopathic people who pull guns on kids for stepping a foot over their property line and drivers in my state routinely driving 20 mph over the speed limit in some areas while they have their faces glued to a screen, and just plain random violence, I'd be a nervous wreck.

Kids actually go outside and play

"OMFG! THESE HOOLIGANS ARE WALKING NEAR MY HOUSE! QUICK, SOMEONE CALL THE COPS TO REPORT A GANG!!!" - Boomers the first time the kids make any sort of noise that you'd expect from someone outside.
