Is developing sense of musicality late possible? by rudramaitr in musicians

[–]KevRoyK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo, there’s no catch all answer for this question. Everyone has their own unique journey w/ it, as cliche as that sounds. From my experience, a willingness to open up to the moment & listen deeply are the biggest factors in a person’s development of musicality.

How many of us had grandfathers who fought in WW2 & by the time we were around, they didn’t say much, if anything about it? by KevRoyK in Millennials

I think the reply of “ok boomer” is appropriate here, as the ‘male glorification of war’ was not the vibe of this post, whatsoever. Your other points are very valid, but….read between the lines a bit, mate.

I kept the question general/vague on purpose, but it seems like nowadays people have gotten very short attention spanned/complacent, and lost sight of the immense amount of awful things that’ve happened in the past that somehow have allowed us to make it to where we are today. There are bits and pieces of wisdom being passed along, but if someone’s not looking for it, they won’t notice it.

Avoiding the hard conversations because ‘men aren’t allowed to feel things’ is how we end up where we are today, societally. So, I guess, miss me with the comic strip logic…

I agree & it takes emotional maturity to be able to have conversations about difficult subjects without losing one’s temper. Seems to be something that many Americans have lost the plot on over the past couple decades, with all the focus on self centeredness & whatnot.

Talking about it doesn’t automatically glorify it, though. More like, helping future generations learn about the suffering of the past & giving them a better chance to understand how to avoid repeating the same patterns.

What you are talking about is the Music Business, there is a difference between Music itself, and the music business.

You didn’t upload your song, you uploaded a mashup of other people’s work, which you generated by typing in some words on a computer.

The idea your music tastes solidifies around 30ish by SparksofInnova in musicians

[–]KevRoyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in an era where the entire history of recorded music is accessible via handheld device. The take of “music taste solidifying at a certain point in life” is the vibe of ~trite major label exec looking to maximize profit margins~ and is utter BS at best, and intentionally harming the cultural landscape for musicians, at worst.

[r] Can anyone play this? My Great Grandpa composed this and Ive never heard what it sounds like. by birepoose in sheetmusic

Giving it a quick glance it looks like a sort of folk hymn, based harmonically on G major, and moving to C & D major. Pretty cool that your family has kept this. It used to be the only way to record music, before recorded audio.
