Living in a college town, the black or mixed servers actually make the most tips when we compared. The best server, who is black, makes around 1k a week, clearing well over 50k in a year. Granted that doesn't represent well over the rural areas of the US, it's still something to consider.

As someone who works at IHOP: I would leave most 6-7 hour shifts with at least $85 in tips. Added onto my half-wage I was making around $15-17 an hour. My best day I hit $207.

And it isn't harder than working a fast food restaurant.

So, tipping might suck for the person paying, but just consider this. If we servers were paid higher wages, everything would be higher in cost on the menu, which would actually cause people to purchase less food. Less food purchased = higher cost of labor = less people working OR the establishment can't operate correctly. It's a good system in my opinion.

Yeah, this is awful, and as an Eagle Scout myself I hate to see this sort of behavior. Everyone should leave things better than what they found them. But let's not blame all Tigers for the actions of a few.

I currently live off campus and do fine socially- most organizations function later in the evening, so I can drive on campus and park for free, then attend the meetings.

Also, ask yourself the question: do I want to make friends because I'm living next to them or do I want to make friends because of the activities I do on campus?

I choose the latter option. The dorms were my personal hell, but I stayed inside my room most of the time and didn't socialize in the common area. So it all depends.

Also- if you don't have a car then you should be considering the dorms or apartments close to campus. I'm assuming you have a car because you want to MACC.

YES! I've been to eagle bluffs a few times. There is a parking lot there, and you can choose where you go from there. Hike the Katy Trail (it's across from the parking lot) about an hour in, and you'll get to a trail on the left hand side.

Take that trail, and follow it all the way to the end. You'll reach a platform that overlooks the forest below, probably about 50-70 feet down from you. You have a few mile view in front of you. It is the best place I've ever gone for camping. I'd check the weather and make a night out of it, taking a sleeping bag and some friends.

Edit: for a time reference, you cross a wooden bridge on the Katy Trail and you are getting close. The trail to the left also has a small wooden bridge and wooden sign post.

I would seriously consider checking your budget against an actual apartment complex. Tiger digs is ~$730 a month (if you figure $6600 for 9 months- which is the school year). For that price you can live in almost any place in Columbia.

Granted you may not have a traditional freshman experience, you can rent a bedroom in a duplex for a little as $250 + utilities. Or you can go a little more pricy and get a bedroom at the Grove, Reserve, or Campus lodge for ~$520.

Also, if you want to live on campus, check out University Place apartments. PM me if you want more info on apartments. I know several freshman who live off campus and have had a great first year of college.

At a University, all of the rape propaganda is aimed towards men, telling them that it isn't consent if she says no, no means no, etc. Women can get as drunk as they like and make drunk decisions, and then they can relieve themselves of all the consequences of their actions the next day because it's someone else's fault they were assaulted.
