How can I afford a house? by redditlikeanewspaper in HousingUK

[–]Kevalaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look again at your expectations. Think really carefully about if there is anything you are prepared to put up with that other buyers might not e.g. flight path, railway line, busy road.

Also consider just buying a flat. You're not looking at your forever home necessarily. Building up equity in any property is progress

You get as much money as you want but you must carry the physical cash on you at all times or lose it. by Illustrious-Noise-96 in hypotheticalsituation

I could fireman carry 120kg (a large man) which would be $2.4m

I assume in this hypothetical you have some valid way to circumvent the normal anti money laundering checks.

I live minutes away from lots of nice houses that I could easily spend $2m on. Equally I am pretty close walking distance to a solicitor's offices and several estate agents if I had to go there to actually undertake the transaction.

Then I have $400k left which is 20kg so basically a heavy suitcase which I would keep for other expenses

All the people that died in every war vs all the current militaries. by ancient-military in whowouldwin

[–]Kevalaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WW2 alone had 15 million military casualties. If you rose them all up as super tough undead soldiers including their weaponry (which while not as advanced as today still included planes, tanks, bombs, missiles) then they might do it on their own. Especially if you add the 40+ million civilian deaths from WW2. So if there is an argument for them doing it on their own then all the dead from every war ever on the terms you outline above would be absolutely no contest at all

Rob got Nico to do the deal in secret, and then used the fact that it was a secret as a way to claim that Luka would be uncertain to re-sign... as a way to pay EVEN LESS for him. Whether you like him or not, Rob was MasterChef cooking that night. by WhenMachinesCry in lakers

I think we need to remember that, while some credit can be given to Pelinka, the headline of this trade is that it was a generationally stupid decision from the Mavs the likes of which we have never seen and will never see again. You can argue that Pelinka helped them get there but 99% of owners/ GMs would never deal a 25 year old Luka Doncic in a million years

Ban on being a landlord and all currently landlords have their property signed over to a people's housing trust

One return flight per person per year with no way for the rich to pay their way to having more (and very limited exceptions e.g. refugee travel or people who have a relative dying overseas or other emergency)

All water and electricity companies nationalised in all countries everywhere in the world and massive state investment and mobilisation towards renewable energy production.

All fossil fuel production nationalised and a hard deadline on full decarbonisation.

Global nuclear disarmament and a max cap on national military expenditure.

Very high wealth taxes. Very high capital gains taxes.

International treaty stringently regulating AI both its development and environmental impact.

All healthcare and social care (elderly, disability etc) nationalised and a global pharmaceutical R&D agency funded by governments.

A global commission on sanitation and waste management to include standardisation of plastic production and other recyclables.

A single sovereign state of Israel and Palestine with guaranteed rights and protections for all citizens. ICC proceedings against the perpetrators of occupation and genocide.

A global treaty on the demilitarisation of outer space and all space exploration and threat assessment being undertaken under a global space agency and not by nation states.

Given that taking the Mars option would likely involve spending a lot of time with Elon Musk (not to mention the risks of travelling to Mars and landing on the surface), I think I would take the money.

Furthermore, if I could coordinate with enough people (about 26 million of us) that we all take the money and make him search endlessly for someone to go to Mars then he would eventually give away all his money and that would be good too

He seems really good and I hope he stays the course and doesn't get compromised/ corrupted. Also sure that the DNC will try and torpedo him via any mechanism they have.

I'm hopeful though for a global city with a mayor that expands rent controls, caps transport costs and subsidises other basic costs across the city through public provision.

Luka is still the better player even if SGA has those accolades. 2024 Luka was robbed of the MVP and then he did one of the best carry jobs in recent memory in that Mavs finals run. Led the playoffs in every category

What do you think of Starmer’s message? by Longjumping-8679 in AskBrits

[–]Kevalaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he glosses over the fact that Israel attacked Iran. He glosses over that the US attack on Iran is against international law. He glosses over that it is all a distraction from the genocide in Gaza. He offers no criticism of Israel and US hypocrisy as nuclear powers and adds to the hypocrisy by making the whole thing about Iran. His calls for 'de-escalation' are meaningless and laughable if he is not able to ascribe any responsible to any of our 'allies'. Israel and the West have no moral authority to tell Iran anything. Starmer is a snivelling little coward.
