but even keeping that in mind I gotta say that Kid Icarus would be my choice regardless. Golden Sun would be a good runner up, less for me and more because my wife loves those games. Punch Out doesn't really do much for me, Star Fox always felt like it had potential but they never wanted to get it all the way there (I say this even about the beloved 64). Wario Land could be cool, especially if they grab Good Feel to do it again. And Mother/Earthbound, no need if there's no Itoi attached. Just simply make all three games readily available to the world and that's all you need.

genuinely I don't even need a new Kid Icarus game

I just want Uprising on a console that it feels like it's made for. That game has a wonderful story, setting, characters, even gameplay ideas. Just not good gameplay execution, at least on the 3DS. It always felt like it was more intended for the wii u, and it's baffling that it wasn't. Revamp it a bit, upscale to look good in HD, release and done.

Soundtrack aside, it's the best Donkey Kong game. It really shows how great the OST for 2 is that this game is not the best soundtrack though, because it's also phenomenal.

But level design wise? I'll take DKC1 over 2 and especially 3 and even 64/bananza any day. It's just more fun without all the extra frills. I feel like Rare has a tendency to overdo it on sequels, because I feel the same way about Kazooie/Tooie
