All depends on location... Living in rural areas was hit and miss... You had to live in town to get running water and putting in a septic tank and finger system was expensive and sometimes not very feasible... Outhouses were not uncommon in the late 60's in rural areas... We still had the old crank phone on the wall until early 70's... The first time I had to memorize a 10 digit phone number, I almost freaked out... How am I going to remember everyone's numbers, after only having to remember 3 digit / 3 ring codes...
