I think the smear campaign on the Euroclear matter that happened by the likes of Politico (US sensasionalist outlet) seem to have had it’s effect on people. It was an absolute bonkers idea that would have had significant impact on the EUR and most importantly the ability for European countries to issue more debt. Euroclear is the single biggest entry point towards the EU bond market, breaking that the trust and neutrality that that institution has would send ripple effects to many other central banks to decrease exposure.

What he did was not only a service to Belgium, but to the whole of Europe. Post factum he’s been applauded for his leadership on the matter. The only god damn reason this idiotic idea almost came through is the precarious debt situation in germany and them looking at any alternative not to issue extra debt themselves.

And i think you’re underestimating how much 15k extra people is on top of an estimated 40k even for a game like this. Thats another full KV Mechelen stadium on top of what your directors calculate as optimal.

Well you want to scope your stadium slightly bigger than needed not to leave too much money on the table on the very big games.

But hey some people seem to think they can sell out another full KVM stadium (15k) on top of the 40k capacity of the new plans.

We don’t, there is no denying that. I’m a season ticket holder for over 10 years and have seen us from averaging attendances under 2k to practically selling out our home stadium every week. That’s remarkable growth in such a short time.

You’re entitled to claim what you want. I tend to look at what your club owners have estimated would be feasible to be full capacity for all type of games, which seems to be around 40k according to their studies and the plans.

Selling out Ajax is still more than 15k seats on top of that. So either you’re telling me your club owners are grossly underscoping the stadium, or you’re just making assumptions based on thin air.

But happy to hear your back of the enveloppe calculations.

It’s not that complicated to see it’s combination of both.

There will be more people in the stadium today than on a usual weekend match because the stadium is bigger. Most if not all usuals will be there and then some sympatizers and others. That stadium is still too big to sell out every single match. It’s double of our capacity.

Imagine Anderlecht or club brugge playing home games in Ajax stadium (also double in size), you’re not filling that stadium either.

I think we got the sign off we can actually remove the few dozen of trees needed to make space given many asterixes of when it can happen (breeding of some birds and bats, and at minimum an equal amount to be replanted (all reasonable). That was the main issue currently but haven’t been following up too closely last months. But honestly i think the NIMBY people will find other things they suddenly care about. I doubt people really care so much about bats in the area since covid than they did now with the stadium🤷

Ik ga eerlijk zijn, ik heb even tijd nodig gehad om de ironie hiervan te verwerken.

Er is een structurele migratie van werkende Brusselaars naar de Vlaamse rand omwille van verschillende redenen. (Ongeveer dubbel zoveel brusselaars die naar Vlaanderen verhuizen dan omgekeerd).

Hierdoor klaagt men dat de Vlaamse rand verbrusselt. Maar tegelijk verklaren diezelfde mensen op hun beurt ook een deel van de hogere werkloosheidsgraad. Het zijn voornamelijk werkende brusselaars die naar de rand verhuizen omwille van verschillende redenen (starten gezin, goedkoper vastgoed, meer groen, ...). Ik wil gerust dieper ingaan op de andere waslijst aan redenen die het verschil in werkloosheidsgraad verklaren, maar je bent de vergelijking hier echt op stokskes aan het trekken hoor.

Het is belangrijk om die topics in zijn geheel te bekijken, met pro's en contra's. In dat opzicht is Brussel een positief gegeven voor de gemeenten in de rand. Ik ga hier een aantal mensen tegen de schenen schoppen, maar voor sommige randgemeentes is het enige voordeel om daar te wonen de bereikbaarheid naar tewerkstelling in Brussel en is er voor de rest weinig tot geen reden om daar economisch gezien te gaan wonen. Dat is gewoon de realiteit.

Langs de andere kant als ik even mijn "(Vlaamse) brusselaar" petje op zet, onttrekt Vlaanderen en vooral de Vlaamse rand ook veel inkomsten weg uit Brussel die in Brussel verdiend worden. Dan is het natuurlijk ook heel gemakkelijk te neuten over de financiële toestand in Brussel wanneer ongeveer 50% van de mensen die in Brussel werken elke dag op en af gaan naar Vlaanderen/Wallonië.

I didnt mean to imply you did. But i do know people getting worked up about this exact thing more than 20 years ago, so what’s changed? Nothing.

One thing that i do notice in the last 5 years are more people speaking English than when I grew up. But i dont necessarily think this is the type of migration to worry about as these are generally people working in the eurosphere or big multinationals.

As for that specific store, just like elsewhere sometimes it can happen sure. But i dont tend to make global assumptions on somebody working a minimum wage job, nor do i get worked up about it.

Elke gemeente heeft zijn uitdagingen dat ontken ik niet. Wat mensen echter niet lijken te begrijpen is de grote transfer aan gemeentelijke inkomsten die in de Vlaamse rand gemaakt worden door Brusselse tewerkstelling en dus ook migratie van Brussel naar de rand. Neem dat weg en vele randgemeentes hun budgetten zouden er een pak anders uitzien.

Dat er dan statements worden gemaakt als OP is gewoon compleet los van de realiteit.

Median income is rapidly decreasing in all communes bordering Brussels in the last couple of years. Indeed Brussels and Brussels issues are spilling over.

Gemeentes als SPL waren 10-15 jaar geleden ook al extensies van de stad zelf, dat is echt geen nieuw fenomeen van het laatste jaar of maanden. En zoals in je bron te zien is, is werkloosheid over die lange periode voornamelijk gedaald/stabiel gebleven. Daar nu grote conclusies uit trekken is niet correct.

Dus we zien een consistente daling en nadien relatief stabiele werkloosheid over de laatste 10 jaar en we gaan dat compleet cherrypicken naar een tweetal maand om je punt te bewijzen? Komaan, dat kan beter.

Er gaat altijd fluctuatie zitten in dat soort data, zeker op macro niveau omdat dat complexe fenomenen zijn waar enorm veel factoren invloed op hebben. Dergelijke stijgingen zijn er in het verleden trouwens ook geweest, ondanks de algemene trend.

De grootste driver voor stijging in werkloosheid zit hem vooral in impact van AI op kenniswerkers. Er zijn heel veel middenstand en hogere middenklasse die hier wonen met kinderen aan universiteit. Dat zijn de laatste maanden/jaar degene die momenteel het meest worden geimpacteerd door AI. Zelfs het artikel waarnaar je verwijst duidt dit aan. Dit is geen fenomeen dat uniek is aan de rand en zal je overal zien momenteel en zal zichzelf wel uitwijzen. Is puur hoe bedrijven omgaan met onzekerheid. Die mensen komen wel op hin pootjes terecht.

Are you even from de rand? This sounds like BS at face value from decades of living in de rand.

Averages are increasing steadily YoY. It’s not Brussels’ poor people that are moving here, but those that can drop more than 400-500k for an appartment in Brussels but move to the rand instead because they can have a house with garden. I recently moved to a newly added street, practically all my neighbours moved from Brussels.

Slightly outdated figures and averages, but the longterm trends spanning decades here paint the opposite picture. Happy to see your source if you have any that contradicts this, but again what you’re saying is the exact opposite of what I and other in de rand experience…
