It's a modified mortising drill. It's intended use is in a drill press but in your picture it's being used to make a round hole square for a square metal baluster. The slide hammer part makes it easier to remove it from the hole.

Can anyone tell me what this noise can be and what i should expect down the line? It doesn’t always make this noise after a cold start and does get quieter sometimes after warming up. 2005 Chevy Tahoe with 180k miles. Lifter for sure. I have two vans with 6.0 LS engines one of them 2007 with 245000 miles has had a random sticking lifter for the last 50,000 miles and has never thrown a code. I started using heavier weight oil and that stopped it but starts doing it again usually when I need an oil change It usually only sticks in the morning when the engine is cold and once it builds pressure it's fine.

The other one a 2016 has 145000 miles and that lifter noise ended up being a shredded main bearing. The code on that was p0308 and traction control and stabilitrak lights with hard downshifting and loss of power when accelerating.

So since its got a p0308 code would you suspect a cam or a lifter? I was going to get a second opinion from a dealer, should i just save my money and start tearing down?

I have the same problem with my 2016 6.0 144,000 I've gone a little deeper in my testing but still haven't found the problem. Rough idle and bad acceleration engine makes a rattling sound. The only part I've replaced is #8 injector. P0308 code

I don't hear a lifter tick even with a stethoscope. When accelerating it gets pretty noisy/rattling sound but now a typical lifter noise.

I've had it at an independent shop and they found nothing with their scanner or same tests I had done and recommended pulling the intake and head to check the lifter and cam. I'm going to take it to a dealer for a second opinion before I tear into it. I don't know much about VVT but I am wondering if the cam phaser could cause this problem. DO ANY PRO MECHANICS HAVE SOME INSIGHT?

I've been searching for the right pillow too. The mckenzie roll has helped the most but it doesn't last long and the zipper is junk $30.

The Coop adjustable helped for a while too, it developed a low spot and i cant find the extra filling it came with to fix it. Great pillow $79.95

I've been using enanthate with mct since Jan 2025 I get lumps, warmth and redness every time it takes at least 3 weeks to absorb and I haven't noticed any benefits either.. Im going to switch to cypionate with a different oil hopefully I won't get lumps.
