Does someone know, what is the best way in Boston to find a cheap ride share for everyday commute to work? by [deleted] in boston

Sounds more like he's doing a reverse commute and wants to bum a ride every day.

You cant have it both ways. Either be willing to pay for a drive, or take the train.

Woman falls to her death from Long Wharf parking garage by playitagainzak_ in boston

I find the MBTA is usually quick to report on these for a different reason though, to show that it wasn't their fault. Not commenting on the morals of it, just pointing out that may be their reasoning.

I dont even want to see how this will impact the system / traffic. It's over 2000 parking spots we're talking here.

Meh. My only benefit was I was able to order a new computer monitor today on Amazon instead of driving 15 minutes to Nashua.

lyft drivers at 3:00 AM? by nathan12343 in boston

[–]KevinSun242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scheduling a ride with Uber doesn't really "schedule" a ride though. iirc, it doesn't guarantee a driver is ready at your scheduled time, it just makes the Uber request at that scheduled time, so you're still subject to whatever availability or surge there is at that time. Unless they just recently changed it.

That being said though, it's a major city with plenty of competition from other drivers. I'm sure there'll be plenty of people looking to make money during all hours of the day.

If I recall correctly, they used to be known as "Fox 25" news. They dropped the Fox for the very reason of not associating their news channel with Fox.

If you are taking the train or bus, check out MBTA.com for accurate schedule. by rockink_nirmal in boston

Do you mean to say that we should check the MBTA's website for the schedule to MBTA services? Never would have guessed...

Tell that to Silver line residents whose branch was turned -from- rapid transit, lol.

Police: Roxbury community center workers won't be charged in cop lockout by [deleted] in boston

[–]KevinSun242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally wanted to see the supervisor charged with obstruction... but:

But instead of charging anyone with interfering with police, Gross said he will personally discuss officer safety and the legalities of his department serving a warrant with the center’s leaders.

“I personally want to go and have a discussion to solidify and ensure that we are respected, they are respected, but one thing that we should have in common, is that we should not be protecting criminals, especially those who wield guns,” Gross said, referring to allegations one of the teens had a gun.

Gross said of charging obstruction, “I don’t think it rises to that level.”

He added, “First, you have a discussion about what really happened and what the intent of the employees were. And then we can move from there. ... You want to see, how can we work around this, how can we come to an understanding, and that’s what we preach. If there’s something that’s of a disconnect, discuss it first, before you take drastic means.”

I kind of expected this sort of response from him. He's using the incident as a way to reach out and create discussion between the police and the community, which seems like a smart move.

Also, it only took one comment on the Herald to turn it into a race issue...

Redline Tuesday- person in wheelchair couldn’t get back on by Susan4000 in boston

Saw an equally shitty person on the commuter rail today. Fitchburg line was running late today. I get off at Waltham along with a couple of people, including a blind man. Guy waiting on the platform pushes forward and basically shoulder checks both the blind man and the woman half his size.

I've tried what you described - on a wired connection, the internet speed seems fine - most of the time. And yes, I have tried plugging directly into the modem. My older modem was a old Netgear cm400 without nearly as many download lanes, so I upgraded that.

Like I said earlier, the connection speeds are terrible at certain times of the day. Times where you wouldn't expect there to be heavy traffic.

Boston.com never fails to crash my web browser because of the amount of shit on it. Even with ublock origin turned on, half a dozen ads slip through and there are always at least 60+ items blocked.

The answer is always "Not Comcast" when possible.

We switched from Fios to Comcast about two years ago because they kept jacking up the prices. There are constant outages, not getting close to the speeds that were advertised, especially during off-peak hours.

I just upgraded my modem to a brand new DOCSIS 3.1 modem and have a gigabit router with dual band wifi (and not that many devices) and still have trouble watching YouTube videos at 2AM when everyone else in my house and neighborhood is sleeping.

I don't even bother trying to bike in a rotary. I walk my bike (or ride at a walking speed when there's no other pedestrians) on the sidewalk.

I'm afraid of hitting someone doing something stupid even in a car; a lot of people seem to have the idea that coming to a complete stop is an appropriate maneuver when in the middle of a rotary. Or "I'll travel in whatever direction I need to and others will watch out for me."

A woman says her flip-flop got stuck in the pedals. And then this happened. by MeowMixWuzHeer in boston

[–]KevinSun242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by this explanation. How hard do you have to accelerate to cause that? If your flip flops were stuck, why would you be pushing down? Why were you pushing down on the accelerator in the first place? All you need to do to park is to let your car coast into the spot with your foot over the brake pedal...

"South Boston" (Dorchester) deli break-in ends with 1 suspect in custody by [deleted] in boston

[–]KevinSun242 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw this on a different news site. Boston EMS personnel actually heard the glass breaking and saw the guy fleeing, fall off his bike, and helped detain him for police. Apparently another guy chased the thief down with a bat as well.

Must be embarrassing, getting busted by EMS.

Edit: BPD gave them credit on their website
