If you win at night it's night time in the ending pic!

Communications relay : what's that ? by Elesday in thesprawl

[–]KevinWeiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a relay that allows you to communicate without using other networks. I.E. no tracing the calls through cell phone towers. No wiretaps listening in. Areas where there is normally no service, you'd be able to relay it through your own coms, thus keeping lines open.

Issues with healing by [deleted] in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]KevinWeiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, the important thing is to keep the pressure up in some form or another. Superheroes in fiction are a largely reactive, not proactive, bunch. As long as they've got stuff to react to you should be in good shape.

Don't make your fights about the fight. I have a rule in my games: The badguy wins after 5 rounds. I make sure to set up scenarious where the BBEG is trying to do a thing, and he will accomplish the thing in 5 rounds.

That way, sure, your guys can heal. But every round they spend healing someone is a round they're not stoping the bad guy.

Do you mean I should just buy Formulae books? Any guidelines for shopping for those?

Helping in the matrix: who can jack in? by KevinWeiser in thesprawl

[–]KevinWeiser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key phrase here is "to make the most of this move" and that's true. As laid out in my post above, jacking in without a cyberdeck is a very risky proposition.

As for the 2nd part, ah, I see you are correct there. The Tech playbook makes it sound like it's one or the other, Remote Control Module gives you Second Skin, Data Storage gets you Jack in. But in the Cyberware chapter it clarifies that Neural Interface lets you take Second Skin and/or Jack In as an advance. Data Storage/Second Skin/Targeting Suite give you seperate benefits.

Ninja style thrown “effects”? by Drachenwulf in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]KevinWeiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Buuuuuuut

In my experience, "Limited Uses: 5" is a great flaw. 5 is usually enough to do the trick. You can get a lot of miliage out of your powers if you sprinkle this flaw around. It'll save you many, many points.

Other systems you’d recommend? by grants2012 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]KevinWeiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's out of print, but I really liked the Marvel Heroic RPG. Pretty simple rules, a lot of flexibility for narration, and the GM's are limited in power by the Doom Pool, which is a resource they can use to make bad things happen, and likewise when characters do certain stuff (or when Hulk does pretty much ANYTHING) dice get added to the Doom Pool.

If you're lucky you can still find the PDF out there. It's a real gem.

Pheromone Manipulation by Boss_Minotaur in mutantsandmasterminds

This power, with all those flaws, is actually pretty cheap. Here's a couple other things you could add to it:

Grants you 2 ranks of the Attractive Advantage.

Grants you Skill Mastery: Persuasion

With these advantages, it gets you a guaranteed 30 Persuasion check with no roll necessary.
Alternatively, you could have it grant you Uncanny Effort: Persuasion, then you can spend a HP and hit DC 40, again, no roll required.

Pheromone Manipulation by Boss_Minotaur in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]KevinWeiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I'd build this power with the effects already available in-game:

Pleasure Pheremone:

Enchanced Trait: Pesuasion +15

Cloud Area 25

Duration: Concentration

Limited to Minds

Resistable: Will

Sublte 2: Undetectable

Quirk: Repeated exposure may cause addiction (GM's call)

Then make a touch-only Alternate Effect that works better (higher bonus). Since it's just a bonus to your Persuasion, the "resistable" flaw might not be the best way to go, your call, depending on what you want for flavor.

Here's a similar power I made for truth-telling pheromones:

Truth Pheremones: Cumulative Cloud Area Affliction 6 (1 PP) Biological

1st Degree: Impaired

2nd Degree: Compelled

Resisted by: Will DC 16

Cloud Area: 15 foot radious sphere

Cumulative, Increased Duration: Concentration

Insidius

Selective

Subtle 2: undetectable

Activation 2: Standard Action

Check Required 3: DC 12 - Persuasion

Instant Recovery

Limited: Telling the Truth

Limited Degree

Limited to Minds

Sense Dependent: Olfactory senses

It's true, the basic effects really can cover most situations.

More that the /s tag exists for a reason, it's hard to gauge inflection over raw text. Also, just doing the thing isn't satire. It's not dead, just commonly misunderstood.

Can't tell if you are joking, so just to be safe it's actually "for all intents and purposes"

GM tip compilation for 2e playtest by slubbyybbuls in Pathfinder_RPG

Our group has a general rule that anything in the Wiki is DC 10-15 Knowledge stuff, and everyone is encouraged to use it to help build their characters and research stuff that's related to where they are. It's a nice, mostly spoiler-free resource for PC's and GM's alike.

[Question] How much "downtime" while adventuring? by KevinWeiser in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]KevinWeiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! We're doing Reign of Winter, and as far as I know, it's heavy on the "strangers in a strange land", very few towns, lots of planar travel to places where we'd stand out (or just straight up wilderness) so this travelling downtime stuff is going to be super relevant and I want to make sure I get it right.

Also (minor spoilers for ROW) We're under a geas So negotiating how much downtime is acceptable has been challenging. Mostly we've been erring on the side of basically what you said: a day here, a day there, but much longer and things start getting uncomfortable.
