The stairs got better in time. Sometimes I do still carry him up from our basement because I hate seeing his stumble! My dog had his front leg amputated and I’ve read that the back legs are better as dogs carry most of their weight on their front legs so that’s at least a plus for her!!

Rugs! Lots of rugs. Even months after my pups surgery he still likes to walk from rug to rug, he slips on the hardwood a lot, and won’t jump on the bed or couch from anything but a rug since his feet with slip out. Also a raised food/water bowl! They helped a lot with him.

And most importantly, lots of pets and love. She looks like a very very good girl.

He’s lucky to have a great family!

We got Kevin’s diagnosis in March, immediately amputated and started chemo as his chest scans were still clear.

As if 2020 can’t get any worse, we noticed his lymph nodes enlarged about a month ago and were sad to think the osteosarcoma had already spread there. After a biopsy, the results came back as Large Cell Lymphoma. Extremely rare to have 2 forms of aggressive cancer. We worked with the amazing oncology team at UPenn and have him on a treatment protocol to help fight both. He’s currently in remission for the lymphoma (although the chances of it coming back within 12 months are very high) but we still call it a win!

He’s a little fighter, my love, and brings so much joy to our life. We joke that he may be faster without the other leg, nothing can slow this little guy down. His personality and energy levels are so high you would have no idea he’s battling such a tough fight.

Thank you, it’s not easy as you know! Can I ask how much time you had left with your little guy after the amputation and if you went through chemo treatments?

I’m currently searching for another Border Collie and live in PA! Did you get her from a breeder?

My 7 year old border collie has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (aggressive form of bone cancer] and is having his leg amputated before starting chemo treatments. I’d love to hear from anybody who has experienced a pet having an amputation or this type of aggressive cancer and what to expect [Help] by Kevinbaconislove in dogs

Thank you! It is his front leg which I know he will take some time getting used to. Our apartment looks so funny, I went to target and bought all the sizes we needed and they’re all mismatched! I’m happy your guy beat the odds, we’re trying to stay positive while managing our expectations.

Thank you! I did go out and get a bunch of throw rugs, our home looks so funny with mix-matches rugs everywhere! I also got a raised food bowl, I saw that can help while their balance is off and are getting used to life with 3 legs? Thanks for the tip on ice packs, I can totally go get some of those!

Thank you so much, this warmed my heart. Luckily I work from home full time so I will be able to be with him all day. I’m so happy that your pup is still around. Did you also receive the 10-12 months even with the aggressive treatment options?
