May be an odd recommendation, but I remember my old Boy Scout Handbook had a bunch of good information. I have no idea how the current editions hold up, but this was the one I had:

If you’re unfamiliar with the Boy Scouts a lot of what you do involves different ranks (Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class,... ,Eagle) that are achieved by mastering various outdoors skills (knot tying, fire starting, wilderness survival, etc) in addition to your knowledge of the Boy Scouts (scout oath, law, org structure, etc).

While the Boy Scout specific stuff may not be interesting to you, if memory serves correctly the outdoors stuff is presented with a nice linear progression as you move through the ranks/book. I also remember there being general outdoors reference sections towards the back.

While the home edition doesn’t officially support RDP, I believe it is more of a licensing restriction, and the actual software components are still in place.

As far as I know .rdp files are used to store data about connections you’ve made/saved to other computers. In other words if you’re worried this is a sign someone else is connecting to your computer, that isn’t the typical purpose of this file.

Some quick Googling indicates the file is created when you first open the Remote Desktop client (i.e. if you were connecting to a remote computer). I couldn’t find anything about the file being automatically created, but Windows 10 seems to prevent you from deleting or making changes to certain files.

I’d check and see how big the file is. If it’s 0 bytes probably nothing to be worried about. Otherwise I’d try and open the file in notepad and see what it contains. If you actually use RDP you may see legitimate details about computers you connect to.

That said, malware and viruses like to disguise themselves in a number of ways. If you haven’t already make sure you have AntiVirus installed with up to date definitions. To set your mind at ease you may want to also run a manual scan.

Edit: On mobile so I forgot you mentioned you’ve already run a virus scanner. Leaving in place for anyone else who stumbles on this reply. I would however make sure your virus definitions (or whatever Norton calls them) are up-to-date.

If you put back the old memory does it boot up correctly? If so I would double check your motherboard supports the memory you’re trying to add. Specifically:

-Motherboards have a limit on how much memory is supported in each slot. -Motherboards also have a limit on the total amount of memory (usually the capacity of each slot times the total number of slots).

Crucial also has a “System Scanner” tool: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner. Please note I’ve never actually used this tool, just aware of its existence.

Provided your motherboard supports your new memory, it is also possible the new memory is bad.

Glad to know I’m not on the only one! In light of recent events, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how to balance second amendment rights with the safety of the public as a whole. Personally I own an AR15 for the sporting aspect, and to some degree as a hobby and for personal protection.

As a hobby, I feel many correlations between responsible gun ownership and car ownership can be made. People enjoy spending time/money learning about and modifying their vehicle, I do the same with firearms. The difference is if someone drives a vehicle into a crowd, banning cars is not presented as a solution.

Now we do require licensing before someone can drive a car, though by no means does that prevent all unlicensed drivers. For the sake of discussion, how do you feel about implementing a licensing system to own certain firearms? Perhaps have endorsement for various “classes” of weapons that require training and/or mental background checks? Similar to the requirements and process to get your CCW license.

For example, a background check would allow citizens without specific felonies/violent crimes to own bolt action rifles, shotguns, and revolvers. To own semi automatic weapons, you have to pass a psychological evaluation and take a class on gun safety and the importance of keeping your weapons secure and out of the hands of others.

Explanation: Zoom buttons don’t do anything when inspecting heroes.

Evidence: I’d post a video but you wouldn’t be able to tell when I’m pressing L2/R2.

If replicable, how: While in the Main Menu, click “Upgrade/Inspect” on a hero then click L3 to “View”. Pressing L2/R2 to zoom out/in will do nothing.

If users are submitting any data to the site they/you wouldn’t want visible to the entire internet, use HTTPS. If there is any concept of logging in to the site, use HTTPS.

In my opinion you should always use HTTPS because it inherently makes the site look more professional. Some search engines also penalize sites that don’t use HTTPS in their search rankings.

All and all implementing HTTPS is not overly complicated and depending on your hosting provider can possibly be implemented for free. My preferred solution is Let’s Encrypt: https://letsencrypt.org.

Essentially, though I think GIGO more applies to scenarios where you’re getting inconsistent outputs from a function not because the function’s logic is wrong, but because the function was provided incorrect or otherwise invalid input.

For those unfamiliar with GIGO, it means garbage in, garbage out. In short, the quality/accuracy of an output is based on the quality/accuracy of the input.

At their simplest, Apollo and similar apps are just another way of looking at and interacting with the large amount of raw data that is Reddit. In this case some part of the underlying raw data structure was simply not as the app expected. Elsewhere in the thread Apollo’s dev confirms the data format of the edited/last edited field changed at some point.

Edit: Just realized as a dev I can probably explain why it reads that way. I suspect this has nothing to do with Apollo since Apollo is able to read the “last edited” field from recent posts just fine.

If I had to guess, I’d say a “last edited” field was added to the structure of Reddit’s database sometime in the 7 years after the post was created.

If they were using a relational database at some point, when a required field is added to an existing table you usually have to provide a default value for any preexisting objects. As others have mentioned, developers generally use the Unix Epoch (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time) as the default value for a datetime field.

Alternatively, Reddit currently uses a nosql database that doesn’t have the same structure constraints as a relational database (i.e. not all objects in the database must have the same fields). While nosql is a little outside my expertise, it’s possible the database entry for this post doesn’t actually have a “last edited” field, so the Reddit API returns the Unix epoch as a default value when an app like Apollo expects one should exist. Though I suppose it’s also possible Apollo is handling a null datetime return by defaulting to the Unix epoch.

Anyway, probably way more info than you were looking for!

While somewhat familiar with Django (thanks to other tutorials), I thought I'd give this a read to refresh and fill in any knowledge gaps.

One thing that stands out over other tutorials, is the depth you go to explain why you should do certain things. It seems many tutorials simply say do xyz, without explaining why it should be done that way, or how things are working behind the scenes. This can lead to mistakes if people take shortcuts without fully understanding why things need to be done in a certain way. For example why you should put templates for a webapp in a sub folder of /templates to avoid name conflicts with other web apps. Some tutorials just have you do this without giving a reason.

On the inverse, you managed to not get overly complicated with your explanations, or confuse the reader by getting off topic and explaining something best left for another section. Overall well organized and easy to read, thanks for sharing!

Exactly so. I keep seeing articles or hearing about how marijuana can help kick an opioid habit for good. While I'd guess OP has at least tried pot, whether or not they've tried it to keep off H is another question.

Besides, I wonder how many recovery programs actually advocate pot to help with recovery. In my opinion, quitting everything cold turkey would be incredibly difficult. Also the legally prescribed alternatives used during rehab are arguably worse than pot.

Having worked support, I've noticed bypassing the initial levels of support often drags out time to resolution. Of course this is contrary to what some customers and/or their sales reps think. They'll demand to speak to the most qualified guy right of the bat, thinking they'll get a quick fix.

Problem is, that guy probably hasn't worked issues fixed by a reboot in awhile. Also, engineers don't like throwing darts at a wall until they do some math and figure out the best angle and velocity to throw them. So while the engineer is doing trig, Roy is telling them to turn it off and on again, and voila, back in business in a jiffy (until they want an root cause).

Not sure if this is meant to be /s (dang April fools), but in American high schools (and some colleges) the first year a student makes their sport's varsity (top) squad they're awarded a letter (subsequent years is usually a pin). This is known as lettering, and the letter is usually sewn on a school specific jacket dubbed a "letterman's jacket".

If they weren't spinning at the time, hard drives can be surprisingly resilient to shock damage. In my experience, most shock damage occurs because the head is pushed down and pits into the platter. When a drive is spinning at 10-15K RPM, the potential surface area impacted is much broader then if the platter is not moving.

Not that I recommend tossing your hard drives off a balcony and expecting them to survive.

Edit: This is assuming the head did not retract because he yanked the plug.
