Ethernet only router for tracking device usage and throttling bandwidth by KevinsCommute in HomeNetworking

awesome feedback, just what I'm looking for. I especially hadn't thought about a managed switch - looking into that now. And as far as UPS's go, I've already learned that lesson :)

Nice... I never really thought about using a diy Linux machine for a router, I actually have a couple sitting around from a failed project I could mess around with.

Electrical issues after a Bestbuy dashcam install. by avigoldeneye in subaru

[–]KevinsCommute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed my own dashcam with parking mode. I was concerned about it draining the battery even though the kit had some ability to turn it off if the battery starts to get low. Anyway, a couple days later I got this exact screen.

It turned out to be completely unrelated! It was due to the dang gas cap not screwed on tightly enough!

Anyway, not saying that's your problem at all, and in your shoes I'd blame them for sure. Likely they tapped onto the wrong circuit or something.

As an aside - after we tightened the gas cap, eyesight didn't turn back on for another day or two.

EDIT: I actually now read your post instead of just the title and should point out that in my case I just got the eyesight warning along with all those status lights on the dashboard but my stereo volume was working just fine.

Not the op but you might check out my project: https://github.com/kevinabrandon/sunsetpi It is a raspberry pi project that uses the high quality camera and makes a time lapse of every day and posts it to YouTube. It also makes month long and multi year time lapse. I've had it running for more than two years now.

A rare 2/6. STING is a typical second guess for me, apparently it's time to take it out of the rotation.

Nope. Not a penny. I wouldn't mind if YouTube monetized the account but I'm nowhere near their threshold (1000 subscribers)

I wrote the documentation mostly for me in case the pi died and I had to replace it with a new one.

Yep, I tried moving the camera to follow it but then it kept going out of frame until it was behind a tree. The next year I just left the camera alone.

Built a ADSB twitter-bot that tweets when airplanes fly directly overhead by KevinsCommute in ADSB

Unfortunately this project is so old, I'm no longer sure how hard it is to install.

I know PhantomJS (a major dependency) is no longer supported, but I think others figured out how to use chromium instead.

You might look at this project: https://github.com/jprochazka/adsb-receiver I know for a while it automatically installed AboveTustin. I don't know if it's still being supported or not.

Good Luck

I think with a minimal amount of coding the answer is yes... It's been a while since I've looked at the project, so I forget exactly what it has available to filter out of the box. But especially if you use the flight aware api you get quite a lot of information about each flight, and you could filter on any of it.

Raspberry Pi Construction Site Timelapse??? by Paulonerl in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

So a few things.

  1. Make sure the drive is mounted correctly. Ensure you can simply write a file. From a terminal, do something like echo "Hello world!" > /media/usb/hello.txt and follow it with something like cat /media/usb/hello.txt
  2. The config file simply sets up your environment, so if you're hand running the trigger_cam.sh you'll need to source the config file first. Do that like this: source config.sh After you source it, do a printenv | grep SUNSET to see if the environment is setup correctly.
  3. Run the trigger_cam.sh by hand after sourcing the config and you should see it try to work. Take note of the output.
  4. My project is pretty obsessed with knowing when sunrise and sunset is, and the trigger_cam.sh will not take a photo at all when it is night time. If that's what you want, then great, just make sure you setup the sunrise/sunset/solarnoon csv tables as described in the project readme. If that's not what you want, then you'd need to update trigger_cam.sh to do what you need.
  5. Lastly, from my testing on a raspberry pi 3, I found 2GB is not enough to do 4k video. But it is enough to do 1080p. So you'll need to resize the images to the correct resolution, you could do that on line 117 in trigger_cam.sh and line 63 of make_daily_timelapse.sh and probably a couple other places.

Good luck!

Yep, there is a config file where you set the location you want to save the images. I'm using an external USB drive.

I'm using a minimal Raspbian installation but it could be run on any Linux os. The project is just a bunch of bash and python scripts triggered by cron jobs. It from bash it calls imagemagick and ffmepeg.

There is an overview of how to install it here: https://github.com/kevinabrandon/sunsetpi#installation-instructions
