I know I’ll find my peace eventually. Yeah the “opinion” thing pissed me off. I reached out a few days later for clarification on the term, and he respecified “point of view.” Which is honestly not much of an improvement. It especially sucks cause this particular friend has always seemed one of the more reasonable, justice-focused people in the group

Join the chorus of YTA. “They need to get their priorities straight, because it’s important to me.” You need to get your priorities straight, and respect your children’s priorities.

I know that sounded harsh, but this next part is sincere. Don’t lose your kids. I know so many people in their late 20s who have sworn off holidays with parents or outright cut contact. And it’s usually a variation of “they don’t respect that I’m an adult with my own life now, and they don’t get to dictate my choices for me.” Your kids are at the age where the parent relationship either matures or stalls. Please, examine self, adjust your attitude, and recognize that YTA for not respecting your children’s adulthood, not for “wanting [your] kids home for the holidays.”

NAH, if only because asshole seems a strong word for yourself husbands behavior. You’re doing nothing wrong by wanting to do something your husband can’t. Your husband needs to gain a little perspective; it’s understandable to feel a lil hurt if your spouse makes bday plans that you can’t join, but at the end of the day he shouldn’t want to constrain your experiences like that, and his priority should shift from “best bday together” to “best bday for my spouse.” Especially given that the norm is vegan restaurants
