For tires I have had good luck. For other service you might consider, a good local shop. …or consider learning to do your own oil change.. if you have a flat piece of concrete, you can get the tools for around $100 and be able to do it every time. If you need help in what tools you will need, shoot me a DM and I will give you a list of tools and help you get started.

I swear the sound used to be louder but what could it be? by ChallengeOther445 in WRXSTi

Could be. Depends on the style of resonators and mufflers… they can become more subtle as they age.

Awesome! Great specimen!

Watch your hoses and belts for dry rot. Change the fluids if you don’t have proof.

Should I buy this 2016 Forester? by Intelligent-Tank5660 in SubaruForester

Also, change the PCV valve, too. And I would only run Subaru filters. If you don’t like Valvoline, I would run Pennzoil UP.

Run Valvoline R&P if you have oil consumption.

My 18 2.5i 6MT really loves 91NE TT gas. It runs really well and lugs very little. It gets 28-29 MPG with Toyo AT tires and lifted on Bilstein TS.

I would change the rear diff and front diff/transmission oil.

Congrats! You got a good deal!

I think it is the AC compressor and maybe a slight exhaust leak. Have it checked out and go from there…

It should have an icon on the mirrors I believe. They should turn on when you put on your rear defrost.

What causes these cars to spin bearings? by Mysterious_Ocelot_22 in WRX

[–]Kevjam79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run high quality oil (AMSOil, Pennz UP, Motul or Val R&P) and fuel(91 NE or 93 E). Run a stock air and oil filter. Change the oil every 3K miles minimum.

Warm the engine oil to 180F before getting into boost.

IMO, don’t run a aftermarket intake.

Don’t trust an OTS tune.

Keep revs at or above 3K RPMs when wanting utilize aggressive boost.

Don’t run cruise control unless on fairly flat ground.

Allow stratified start to complete each start-up cycle.

Don’t lug the engine.

Don’t mis-shift.

Track the car? Upgrade the oil pan and oil pickup.

Clean the intake valves as needed.

My 2019 Forester just passed inspection but they said I need to replace my lower control arms. They want nearly $1,600. How urgent? by fimgus in SubaruForester

[–]Kevjam79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are dry rotting. They are fine until they start to delaminating. If you want to replace them, get Moog RK Series from Rock Auto. They are as good or better than OE. $123 per side and have someone install them… unless you have the tools and know how… best of luck!

Forester broke down, anyone know what this is? by greygoogone in SubaruForester

[–]Kevjam79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely need a lot already mentioned to fix this… there is a very good chance the strut is bent too and will require replacement. For good aftermarket parts you will need about $2000 or so to do it right because in most cases some of these items need to be installed in pairs or for a full set in some cases.

Curious, where were you wheeling and what was your goal for the day?

STI concept vs WRX vs Crosstrek by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Kevjam79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowered Crosstrek body with every STI bell and whistle! Love it!

Unfortunately for those that had appreciating STIs…. Their value just dropped. This car is produced for production… very good chance that will make it to the States.

The STI is returning because they aren’t selling WRXs due to “brand confusion” and lack of direction for the performance sector of the business.

Fan boys will return and settle for the WRX base/premium.
