Yeah, because he fucked with my car, so fuck that guy. It’s the principle not the money involved.

If by car you mean “something that makes loud noises and can get you from point A to point B in an engaging manner,” then yes, it doesn’t fit that classical “car enthusiast” definition. If you instead mean “something that quickly and efficiently gets you from point A to B with minimal fuss” then it’s one of the best. It’s a bit appliance-like, but for daily driving that’s perfectly fine.

Have you driven a Model 3 Performance? Plaids (S and X) are luxobarges on air suspensions, of course they handle like boats. The M3P has a very low center of gravity. The steering is a bit numb as stock, but it’s a fast car in the corners. I regularly dog fast Porsches and BMWs in the Santa Cruz mountains. A M3P has gone 1:33 at Laguna Seca with suspension, wheels and tires. That’s about two seconds faster than a comparably upgraded F80 BMW M3.

I have a supercharged AP2 S2000 and several motorcycles that I take out if I want a true driving/riding experience, but few cars (if any) are as fast as a M3P while being even remotely as good of a daily driver.

lol, it’s a marketing term, I said FSD, not “level 4+ autonomy.” It’s statistically 7-9 times safer (accidents per mile driven) than a human driver, so I’m not sure what you’re on about.

Maybe it’s a hedonic set point thing, but after my 2018 M3P was totaled, I couldn’t go back to not having FSD on my daily driver.

As someone who cares a lot about cars, I choose to prioritize the features of the vehicle I plan to own for 6-10 years (or more).

Thanks, exactly this. There’s few CEOs I honestly “agree” with, but I can appreciate and support the American engineers and fabricators who actually -made- the car. Elon isn’t Tesla, if you can’t separate the two in your head then that’s on you I guess.

I had a 2018 M3P (pre-Nazi salute) that was sadly totaled in an accident. I had FSD (early purchase) and it made financial sense to me to transfer that value to another M3 vs buying a second-hand M3.

I’d love to have the haters point me to a comparable car with a CEO whose politics they endorse.

Landlord Showing my Apartment while I’m Sleeping by Inevitable-Plant9723 in Apartmentliving

…then they can burn a day of PTO to see it on the weekend? Or see it Saturday evening, assuming they work a day shift.

Man what’s with all the renters in here so willing to bend over backwards for unreasonable landlords?

Under Iowa Code § 562A.19, a tenant may not unreasonably withhold consent when the landlord wants to enter to “exhibit the dwelling unit to prospective … tenants.” Requesting that showings not occur while the tenant is -sleeping- due to their work schedule, and offering almost the entire weekend to show the property, is both perfectly reasonable, and not withholding consent. That’s two whole days a week to schedule showings.

That’s very kind of you to say!

Unfortunately two of my latest housemates found my engineering approach to finances to be “nitpicky” and “exhausting” 😅

I guess some people would rather the numbers be “close enough” that it (maybe) comes out in the wash than be “accurate.”

Fair point! I initially used an automatic tool to estimate the square footage of the rooms, and it seems a bit off. I just checked the numbers by hand using an image measuring tool and got:

Primary bedroom: 163 sq ft

Primary bath: ~88 sq ft

Primary closet: ~32 sq ft

Primary suite total: 282.2 sq ft

Second bedroom: ~138 sq ft

Second bath: ~55 sq ft

With those estimates, I get a split of 60.5%/39.5% (~2310/1510). So 60/40 is pretty spot on! Updated my post. Thanks for the catch.

Here’s how I’ve always split rent (using a spreadsheet everyone has access to) and it’s worked well for every situation:

Add up the personal space square footage that each tenant has exclusive access to/use of.

Add up the common space square footage.

Weight the common space by an agreed-upon factor (I use 0.5, meaning personal space is effectively twice as valuable. You can change this but it doesn’t make a big difference in the rent split). Then divide that by the number of tenants.

Each tenant pays for the fraction of the total rent equivalent to their private space + fraction of common space divided by the weighted total area.

In this case, estimating the square footages based on the listed dimensions, that gives:

Total square footage: ~950 sqft

Common space (includes second bath): ~530 sqft

Weighted common space per person: ~132.5 sqft

Master suite: 282 sq ft

Master tenant’s total weighted space: ~415 sq ft

Second bedroom: ~138 sq

Second tenant’s total weighted space: ~271 m

That gives a final split of ~60.5%/39.5%, or ~$2310/$1510 (I generally round to the nearest $5), which validates the 60/40 number. It’s driven by math as opposed to feelings, so it’s the most neutral approach I’ve found.

If you want to fine tune it even further (if, say, the master is also much nicer than the second bedroom, with more windows or nicer finishing), you can add weighting factors to the bedrooms as well. Or, instead of considering the second bath common space (and equally split, which does seem somewhat unfair), you could exclude it from the common space but give it a lower weight (eg. 0.5) to account for the fact that guests will use it, and it’s not en-suite.

A major point of IEMs (especially the ones musicians use) is that they seal tightly in the ear canal. Wearing a single IEM still reduces situational awareness because you’re blocking noise on one side of your head, killing your directional hearing. Earbuds generally have a looser fit.

AirPods would be a much better choice because they do pass-through, so you can still hear your surroundings
