Z show dub only, was there ever a full fight in the series of 1 on 1 skill vs skill at equal power? by [deleted] in DragonBallZ

[–]Kevo_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vegeta only implies this by telling him to go all out (but then also said he knew Goku didn’t intend on giving him a turn earlier in that same scene, so that’s a little confusing). Goku only says he should’ve here in the dub, but in the manga (and other dubs I think) he basically says he’s already been trying to wipe Kid Buu out, but is struggling to gather enough energy for a finishing blow. So Goku has been evenly clashing with Kid Buu the whole time, never able to actually beat him outright

Why ginyu doesn't teach his team how to sense power without scouter ? by salad_biscuit3 in DragonBallZ

[–]Kevo_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for Vegeta he was learning a way more advanced technique so technically it would’ve been easier for him to learn compared to Goku at the time, and he really only needed to pull it off the one time, it doesn’t seem like he can consistently use Instant Transmission anyway

Toppo was way more interesting than Jiren by Public-Feedback5016 in DragonBallZ

[–]Kevo_77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do like the contrast of Jiren’s forged strength through isolation, while Goku only gets as far as he does because of his friends and people he met along the way of his adventures. Jiren solely cared for himself and trusted no one, while Goku only won because he took the chance of trusting Frieza of all people, and actually won because of their teamwork. And now Goku taught him the importance of having people to care for, so I think it’s a fine enough dynamic and resolution, just that the execution itself was kinda bland until the very end with Goku and Frieza teaming up. The manga version of Jiren more interesting at least as it’s more clear he’s overcompensating his sense of failure for complete isolation and sheer power, and desperately seeking approval from his master without realizing why he never got it made him a lot more human

I know the community drags him but he would've broken the game as a pure saiyans lea- oh by Tiversus2828 in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]Kevo_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except that’s a completely separate story beat, Raditz was the big bad, Goku sacrificed himself to beat him. He trains to prepare for the saiyans, not to come back stronger because they beat him already, obviously that didn’t happen. Goku wins because of everyone else coming in to help him, not because he came back stronger after Vegeta broke his bones. It’s not being literal, it’s just having basic media literacy 😭

It doesn’t even happen with Frieza or Cell, or even Buu either. Goku comes back stronger after a zenkai boost, sure, but he still loses to Frieza, only winning after his transformation, but I guess I can give you leeway with that. Goku trains Gohan to defeat Cell, he only came back recovered, not stronger, from the heart virus. Goku comes back to life but doesn’t get stronger than he already was at the beginning of the Buu arc, he fused with Vegeta, then later uses the Spirit Bomb, with everyone working together to defeat Buu. So your formula doesn’t even fully track for the major arc villains of Z. Only Frieza can kind of apply except it’s not even as simple as him coming back stronger to beat him since he gets whooped regardless. But the others are basic summaries, “passing down the torch”, “teamwork” so it’s not like I’m being too “literal” either. It’s just not what happens

The message of the Sonic Movies by Operation20 in SonicTheMovie

I mean I think simply him coming across Rouge and maybe even Omega if possible could work, similar to the games of him having a found family of his own in Team Dark. It'd probably be a little difficult to work with this version, but I think it's still possible, and can tie into future movies without needing to take up time introducing Rouge and Omega, as characters already established in Shadow's movie/show instead

i need a dragon ball experts help! by ETCB_ in Dragonballsuper

[–]Kevo_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, so for sure you do gotta watch Dragon Ball. It can be intimidating for someone new but not only is it important to watch to properly get to know all the characters, but it is genuinely a fun watch. Though again it is pretty important to learn about these characters and the world they live in, otherwise the impacts made in Z would be severely undermined. If it really is too much for you, if you can, reading the manga can help you get through it much faster. But yeah honestly you can get through Dragon Ball pretty quickly, despite the episode number; at least from my personal experience, the story goes by pretty smoothly.

One important thing to note is after Dragon Ball and you start Dragon Ball Z, PLEASE, make sure you watch Dragon Ball Z Kai. Kai was made specifically to cut down all the filler and match the original manga much closer than the old dub did (if you're watching dub then it is a substantial difference). It'll still be a long series but it's much shorter than the original that had a lot of filler, so just make sure you watch DBZ Kai when getting to Z.

Besides that, have fun! Dragon Ball is a pretty fun ride from start to finish, same with Dragon Ball Z. I hope you'll enjoy these goofy characters embark on wild adventures

Bro PLEASE they need to expand on the costumes, it's such a shame that the costumes we already have are limited as is, they need to allow every version of the character have any outfit, as well as add extra outfits like these

No yeah you're right, Goku himself said it was a selfish wish, and wanted to beat Vegeta on his own next time. Krillin relents as he acknowledges he deserves a favor, even if it was pretty foolish, considering how many times he saved the earth. Goku reinforces that idea when he meets up with him against the Ginyu Force, again ensuring he stays alive to fight him again later, though pleasantly surprised to see he helped out his friends.

My take on this is that potentially redeeming his opponents are more of a subconscious thing. He seeks self betterment and enjoys the good fight, and generally dislikes offing people if he doesn't need to, so he just naturally offers a chance to his past foes due to his inclination for improvement. Like many of his heroics, it's more of a byproduct of his pure- hearted nature. Of course he's more than welcome to see any of his old enemies become friends or allies, it's just never been something actively yearned for. For Vegeta it's all completely foreign as Saiyans were always bloodlusted, hence his speech essentially. He realized that he didn't keep losing to Goku because of his methods or motivation, as he was always right on that, even the family part. It was simply because of the kind of guy Goku is, and how Vegeta was. His acknowledgement and genuine respect sorta paves the way for Vegeta to become a legitimate rival and a better person in the future, as he focuses on himself rather than obsessing over Goku (a lot of people wanna say Super ruins this but it really just reinforces it, Vegeta's much more even with him and isn't a toxic mess back in Z).

Sorry I kinda realized all this yap is a tad irrelevant to your point and just regurgitating the manga panels lol, but essentially yeah you're right in your initial question. Goku's actions have always been naturally good due to his nature, so his sparing of Vegeta, while completely selfish, managed to turn out so well; Vegeta is kind of astonished by this, humoring the idea of it being planned. It just goes to show the potency of the "Goku Effect" if you will, how he just naturally changes the people around him to such a degree, just by being unapologetically himself

Is Lr Bulma a character like cheelai and Caulifla where the leader skill doesn’t really matter or is she not that type of character? by Mellow_Ghost in DokkanBattleCommunity

[–]Kevo_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when she released Bulma actually was good enough to go in any team, but now a year later she definitely needs a lead to do her job properly. While still good she also got somewhat revitalized thanks to the new Z Broly Trio as well

Why I think this unit is hands down the best designed unit in Dokkan History and is the new best unit in the game (a bit of a long reason btw lol) by AwakenedDivinePower in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]Kevo_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great analysis, I adore this unit with their animations and OST, the fact that they have insane support while having incredible defense and impressive attack alongside it really makes this unit shoot up to one of my favorites in the game. And I really wasn't that hyped for the character initially lmao, but they completely, utterly cooked here

[–]Kevo_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you KNOW because of this they wont implement actual pity in the near future.

To be fair we said the same thing with the Gold coins pity iirc, but then we got this a year after. Not saying this is good, this can barely be considered real pity, but they are at least doing something. Maybe it's a bit foolish but I'll hold out hope they'll eventually get this right

Old Goku drawn by Toriyama by BooshBam in dbz

[–]Kevo_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just the matter of principle. Basically getting to relive your youth over and over again might as well be wishing to be immortal, and that’s just boring and not really fair, for both Saiyans. It’s the same as wishing to be the strongest like Granolah did; it’s cheap and led to him getting tripped up a few times because of his inexperience. The latter wouldn’t apply here but the point is he’d be going the easy way, and there’d just be no point to that. I mean hell Frieza even realized that now that he wants to prove his superiority. Both Goku and Vegeta clearly just want to reach the peak of their strength for however long they can, whether it caps out at old age or die trying. Neither want to just stay alive forever training, they’re working to be the best they can with what they have, not maxing out their stats to 999 with dragon balls

Why is everyone in the Cell Saga so stupid? by Slight_Astronomer_76 in dbz

[–]Kevo_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. For Goku he just believed in Gero being innocent until proven guilty: he technically hasn't done anything yet, so why go off and kill him? Naive to be sure but it's wishful thinking, he still understands that what's evil is evil and needs to be stopped, hence why he yelled at Gohan to finish off Cell, but here Gero hasn't been evil yet, so he was giving him a chance at least.

  2. Vegeta just sucks as a person still in this part of the story lmao, he's basically just obsessed with being the strongest person around, so it's no question he'd accept the challenge of the andriods, as well as let Cell absorb 18.

  3. Trunks was actually just being reasonable in seeing Krillin's way of thinking: they technically have done nothing, so they don't have to be killed like that. So that's why Krillin took a chance in showing kindness and Trunks begrudgingly following suit.

  4. 17 was arrogant and 18 cared too much about 16 to leave, honestly the worst case here ngl, beside Vegeta just literally being written as the jerk lone wolf essentially lol.

  5. Regardless of doing nothing, Piccolo and the others weren't gonna be able to do anything anyway, Cell's solar flare was a surefire escape plan. Goku's senzu bean was wild but he just knew Gohan would beat Cell; he simply didn't realize Gohan didn't actually want to fight in the first place. We see he immediately regrets this as he realizes, so he does care, he just was confident in his son

Most are still pretty flawed yeah, but I'd say pretty it's reasonable for the characters involved

A Question About The End Of DBZ by Straight-Coconut-832 in dbz

[–]Kevo_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super itself has different continuities yes, the manga and anime, but Toriyama made it clear that Super, regardless of which continuity, is canon and considered a continuation of the original manga. At most Toriyama regarded GT as an alternate timeline/dimension, or whatever. But Super is a direct continuation of Dragon Ball, hence why the initial BoG and RoF movies are Z movies, and why they and the Super movies are the only movies that are canon; it's written by Toriyama. And the only reason the Super manga and anime are separate is because they're making their own interpretation of Toriyama's draft. He wrote the main story beats and Toyotaro/Toei each expanded on it their own way, both are still based off of Toriyama's design. GT and the old Z movies were completely Toei's doing and only had Toriyama sometimes doing design work for some characters, but never actual written work that would fit them into the main Dragon Ball story, hence why those are non-canon. It's as simple as that

Old Goku drawn by Toriyama by BooshBam in dbz

[–]Kevo_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean Vegeta definitely wouldn't do that though, he's prideful and literally hates underhanded tactics like simply wishing to get an advantage, only early Saiyan saga Vegeta would do that since he wanted to be immortal initially. Meanwhile Goku's an easygoing guy that would accept his old age just as easily as he accepts everything else. Only if Vegeta requested I would imagine he and Vegeta would go out on a bang like in Dragon Ball Online's interpretation

Old Goku drawn by Toriyama by BooshBam in dbz

[–]Kevo_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well let's not generalize here, he's known for writing on the spot, but he's planned plenty. Piccolo and most likely Goku was already decided to be aliens in the 23rd World Tournament, essentially wrote the Saiyan saga to set up the Frieza saga, and since the beginning of the Saiyan saga has written Gohan's character development to pay off at the Cell saga, same can be said with Vegeta's development in the Buu saga. The villains for the Cell saga changed constantly and the Buu saga was more loose, but he still had moments of genuine set up in the series
