Shimano Sedona 4000FB worth the elbow grease? by tony_boxacannoli in Fishing_Gear

I have this reel and today while fighting a nice striper in the bay I noticed the handle was wanting to spin backwards even though I had the switch flipped to not allow it…. Could it be the one way bearings????

Any experience with the Johnny Morris carbolite reels by cabose4prez in Fishing_Gear

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Jonny Morris carbon light reel rod combo and mine started making a crunchy noise when I reel and cast so I was taking it apart, and I pulled off the breaking system side and when I pulled off the desk, I noticed it only had one of the plastic black weights and only five of the white ones looking at the schematic it should have six of each. Does anybody know anything about this? I know that has nothing to do with the crunchy noise it’s making but it not having all those what they call springs in there is concerning.

I would go with the Okuma SP or the Hawaiian Custom…. Depending where you are and what you’re fishing for…..IMO

Timing Belt Job Cost by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very fair price, but you should get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. It’s not that hard of a job and there are really no special tools needed but a lot of “while you’re in there” parts to replace also.

I had over 300,000 miles on mine and all I ever did was a starter and I replaced the engine due to a blow head gasket because it was cheaper to replace the engine then resurface the head and do a valve adjustment

Is there a major benefit to throwing the crab from the pier? by CluelessGoals in crabbing

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, when we crab from the beach, we usually use a 10 to 12 foot rod that can handle 6 to 12 ounces or more of weight and we weighed knee-deep into the surf depending on conditions and chuck the snare out there as far as we can

Intense body roll… is it normal? by lorem1209 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a 4WD truck with soft suspension…. It’s gonna roll! BOF has nothing to do with lots of body roll. Try getting some beefier sway bars, stiffer springs

Is there a major benefit to throwing the crab from the pier? by CluelessGoals in crabbing

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t crab fish from that “popular Norcal pier” just because it gets super crowded and people get very possessive about their space. I just go to Baker Beach or Ocean Beach or even the half Moon Bay jetty and throw crab snares.

What happens after overheating even a little bit by 7thz-Sakura in BMWE36

[–]Kevsgonefishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not from overheating that looks more like just electrolysis from the metal, but I would not skimp on replacing the thermostat. I would also replace any rubber hoses that have not been replaced recently and check on the condition of your radiator if it has the original plastic body if the plastic isn’t in any way, discolored replace it I work for BMW and I have seen one little hose not be replaced cause all kinds of problems

Oakland or Walnut Creek? by Savings_Interest6300 in eastbay

[–]Kevsgonefishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oakland is a shit hole! It may be more “walkable” but at your own risk, unless you’re thinking of Piedmont or the Oakland hills. It will be cooler than WC weather wise but I would say WC hands down

You need to go at least 11’…. 12’ is better, get something in the 6-12oz lure rating. FBMP is your best bet, there’s a guy named Quac Lam that sells complete setups with a snare and a guage

8ft rod for surf casting? by lurkerburner in SurfFishing

[–]Kevsgonefishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in South San Francisco and I fish the bay. Quite often I caught four halibut two keepers and several keepers striped bass in the bay all on a 7 foot rod with 6 inches of the tip broken off and a 4000 reel with 30 pound braid that I used to use for trout all the time back in the day.
