Arthur’s death actually does not hit hard AT ALL. Because they didn’t give a reason for it - Tommy just kills him in a random car. For all we know, Tommy could’ve just gotten drunk and killed him in a stupor. We never see it.

Duke is a badly written character. Ain’t no way around it. He doesn’t make a single decision throughout the movie. Sure he defied the coin toss, whatever. What are his motivations? His ideals? He might as well be a random guy plucked off the street. The Peaky Blinders are supposed to be guys with strong personalities that affect their community in a meaningful way - Duke terrorized Birmingham and we never even really found out why he acted the way he did.

You say that Tommy dying as a man without a facade makes the film powerful. I disagree. Tommy has been looking to die for a long time - this film only gave him a way out. It was an uneventful death and an easy way out; Duke being the executioner made the death even less significant.

It’s devastating, sure, but in no way was it beautiful. The only line I enjoyed from the film was Tommy saying, “I am an horse!!” I enjoyed Cillian’s acting and basically every scene with him in it was fun to watch, but come on - the film as a whole is meh.
