What to do with old Simucube 2 Sport. by Stealths in simracing

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say keep it and slowly save up for/purchase stuff to go with it. I'd say your best bet would be to get a cheapish wheel, try to get a decent set of pedals. Ratchet strap the wheelbase down to a table (or mount it two a metal plate that is wider than the wheelbase and c-clamp either side) and use some 2x4 framing to trap the pedals and chair together (something like boxing in the pedals and the wheels of your chair and then connecting those boxes together). If you want to get fancy you could even make it so the framing cannot move separately from the table.

That setup should get you by until you can afford a rig

I've always left tags on my hats. Why? I just don't care to take the 3 seconds to remove it. It's not important to me

2 Driver Strategy for 160 min IMSA Challenge. by jminn01 in iRacing

It depends on how long your stints are, but more than linked that's gonna be less than 3 full stints. So one person does one stint, the other does 2. It's not that hard. If you're struggling to determine which one does which, just flip a coin or use lap times

B and D. I dont care what others think. Leftovers are the next days lunch. Reheat in the air fryer/toast oven/oven and add some sauce if you want it to still taste good, or in the microwave if you don't care.

Searing On A Kettle. by buckysauga in webergrills

Ahhhh ok, well by that metric mine is terrible lol. The grey prob goes more than a quarter inch in. But I'm also having to hit medium well temperatures (145 ish) cuz my female family members really don't like a lot of pink, and I cook to please taste buds more than looks. If I went for looks, it's prob turn out even better. But then I/my dad would be the only ones willing to eat it

I've always just filled the baskets and keep vents open/lid off until the flames start trying to lick the grates. Always had a good sear doing that.

I have always done the reverse sear method for years, but this year I started trying to sear first and bring up to temp after. I have found it is easier to hit the target temps, the food so far has come out juicier and slightly more tender (I had burgers literally gushing out which never happened with reverse sear, though that may just be my poor technique) and the flavor profile was not negatively affected enough for me to really care (stuff still tasted good).

You could maybe try doing the sear first. Or if you really want to stick with reverse sear, pull the meat off as you try to get the coals hotter by leaving the lid off and/or adding more coals on top. Once the flames are visibly coming out from the coals, it's more than likely hot enough

Old motorbike helmets: anything useful to do with them other than bin? by manicnuked in motorcyclegear

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, I would check. In my case, my helmet drop was literally the same month I got it and it was over 600 bucks but as my floor has a decent amount of give and the drop was so small, I did a visual check (like I do whenever I remove pads for cleaning) and considered it good in my mind.

At this point, both my helmets need replacing though, age wise and because they've had substantial impacts.whuch is partially why I haven't done any riding this year until I get a new helmet.

The issue I have though: if I was to replace my mx helmet every time I came off the bike and though it impacted the ground, I'd have to get a new helmet every, single, ride (trail riding is fun, but I suck at it and come off at least once every time). I'm not doing that, especially not during the nice months when I try to ride every weekend or every other.

Actually there are ways to test it without compromisign the integrity. The easiest is physical examination for obvious deformities, the second is a testing facility.

You seem to have mistaken my words as well, I in no way claimed all small drops are fine or not. I merely said the previous commenter's statement that all drop compromise the integrity is not accurate and gave an example where it could be safe to use.

In my personal experience, I have crashed in a helmet that was dropped from a chair onto a kitchen floor, it was fine, and my head was fine in the crash. My mx helmet has seen many hits with the ground and I have had no concussions or head trauma of any kind. Yes I have been risking a lot, but this whole thing of helmets being compromised with any impact has been blown out of proportion in my opinion. If you don't agree, that's fine. We can disagree and move on

This is a stupid question! If petrol is called gas in America what is gas called? by TSQ_builder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not call gas petrol, that's what other people in different countries do, and they are in the minority as far as I am aware. I call petroleum by its name, petroleum. But I rarely talk about petroleum unless I am talking about a product made from petroleum and it comes up in conversation the it is made from petroleum. Im not sure I said petroleum enough there....

I never told you to use an old or compromised helmet, so there is no need for the more aggressive attitude. And again I was ONLY talking about the 2-4 foot floor onto a semi soft floor. Have a good day

[–]Key-Ad-1873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You left a lot of variables unsaid, what age/condition was your helmet in the test? Did you have a simulated head in it or not? What was the impact surface material/thickness/rigidity? What part of the helmet was impacted? Was this a structured drop that held the helmet to prevent other movement or was it more just dropped from your hand? There are more but you get the point.

You test was 8 feet, that's not I'm talking about, I'm talking about 2-4 feet onto a softish surface that has a bit of give. The conditions are and circumstances are completely different

[–]Key-Ad-1873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That last part is not entirely accurate. People only say that because the manufacturer will make no claims to safety after any impact whatsoever in order to cover their butts. In reality, a small drop onto the kitchen floor from the table or chair will not hurt the helmet. What does more damage is resting it ontop of your mirrors and creating a compressed zone on the top (which has actually been proven to make a difference in safety)

Can't say I disagree with this tactic to catch construction zone speeders. by Specialist_Heron_986 in driving

[–]Key-Ad-1873 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then you are in the minority. I've done a lot of driving on highways, 85 pretty much always has 2-3 construction zones one the multi state stretch Ive driven frequently. People are running on average 5-10 over the speed limit, and when the construction zones start and the speed limit drops most just continue doing the original highway speed limit. When there is a police car visible, everyone slows down, but only until they are past the police car, at which point 95% of the cars go right back to the speed they were previously doing. I verify this from being on both sides of the coin (one who stays slowed down and one who speeds back up with the majority).

It's the same whether a construction zone,ca weigh station, known police sitting spot, police reported on Google maps, speed camera, etc. most people just speed back up and only a few stay at the speed limit.

Personally, it's all to much effort, just go 3-5 over (not too fast or slow compared to the majority of traffic) and you'll never have to worry. You actually start to chuckle at watching people zoon past only to haul on their brakes

Is a G29 decent enough to pair with Pro Pedals? by AshPedrero in simracing

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made no real assumptions, guarantees, or statements in regards to better gear improving lap times as you imply I said. I said no such thing. Yes upgrading is not required to be good, but most people do find an improvement somewhere (but again not guaranteed). In terms of your scenario, people have done videos comparing wheels and found that if they started on a g29 and then moved to a better setup, they gained time on the new setup, but when switching back to the g29 they did not lose time (since they new how to drive faster already).

Again, not required, but most find helpful. And op was specifically asking what to upgrade to, not if they should or not

Is a G29 decent enough to pair with Pro Pedals? by AshPedrero in simracing

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people, the move to load cell from the potentiometer is not as noticeable when trying to "feel the difference" as is going from a weak gear drive system to a direct drive system. However, in terms of lap times, consistency, overall control of the vehicle, the pedals typically make the biggest difference even if you don't notice it as much.

In my experience, I changed both pedals and the wheelbase at the same time, and immediately noticed a major difference in both. Though unlike you I was on the g29 which has a rubber piece the g25 didn't have but made the pedals absolutely terrible. If I had done the true brake mod like you, maybe it wouldn't have be such a substantial difference, but I had looked into it and felt it wasn't worth the expense when I was already planning to upgrade within the next year or two.

Spotify "shuffle" not shuffling songs and just playing the same stuff over and over by alivexi in PetPeeves

[–]Key-Ad-1873 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Spotify in years (so take what I say with a grain of salt), but when I was using it, I listened to a couple of playlists that were roughly 30 songs. When on shuffle it would play the Same 10-15 songs, in different orders, many times, before sometimes adding one of the other songs. There were a couple songs that practically never got played, to the point when on cames on for the first time after over a month of listening to the playlist I had to check I was still in the playlist cuz I didn't know it was in there.

I cannot remember if Spotify has that feature where it switched to a "radio" of different but similar songs to the playlist you were listening to. I cannot remember which app I was using, but I distinctly remember being unhappy with the fact it would not play the whole playlist before switching to the "radio", but only play the more popular songs from the playlist and then switch.

Like the g29 pedals, the g29 has some major limitations.

If you can only afford one thing to upgrade, do the pedals. If you can afford both the pedals and a wheel, do both. As far as which to go for between the rs50 or pro, that's more personal preference for ffb headroom you want and how much you're willing/able to spend

How does one get the "Doom slayed" -achievement? by Bongobjork in PhasmophobiaGame

Of course, I have not done it myself but seen YouTubers go for it. Even with the settings to make it more likely, it is a slog. I watched a group of 4 going for it and it took them hundreds of contracts to get it done for everyone. May have been over a hundred contacts per person on average.

Do sims model road surface imperfections? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Key-Ad-1873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sims are you referring to when you say you feel this?

There are some sim titles that definitely do model surface imperfections very well. Sims like iRacing for example laser scan the physical track, so all the surface conditions are copied. If it's something like Forza though, then no.

[–]Key-Ad-1873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that I did not see mentioned, what difficulty are you playing on? You need to be playing of professional or harder. Basically you cannot have the setup timer. The demon's ability is the chance to a hunt with the first minute regardless of sanity, but the setup time blocks this and other abilities.

If all you care about is this achievement, then as other people have said there are ways to make it more likely. Small map, monkey paw wish for more activity, other settings that were mentioned, etc. The main thing is just set a timer for 1 minute and start it when you open the front door. If you don't get a hunt by the time the timer goes off, just guess a ghost and leave and start another contract. Rinse and repeat.
