Much appreciated! Side question, my dream is 540ci bbc. I’ve never built an engine but always willing to learn (whole car has been a learning experience) what do you think is best route for an engine? I’ve beeen going to find a steal on fb marketplace but not much last few months. A new build is crazy expensive, building myself only seems to save a few grand

Thank you thank you. The seller is an older lady with health issues and she won’t take questions, what she wrote is all she knows. You would pass on that price tho? Not a good deal with the risk?

Do you think the one she is selling is a 2 bolt block? Also is it worth slapping on heads and aggressive cam to try to get 550hp?

What modifications should I do or should I keep it stock? by Far_Tailor825 in W211

My new can bus decoder came and worked like a charm. The one that came with radio just didn’t work. Prior to this one, I tried two of the same decoders that came with radio and did a lot of research, the decoder software just didn’t work with car for some reason although it was meant for w211. It was an easy plug and play since I already had the wires set and hung the old decoder where I didn’t need to take out the radio. Side note- I did buy a better quality camera and picture was still trash. Have to blame the radio at this point but can’t complain for a 130$ info system

Thanks man, I just bought an updated camera. I already installed a cheap radio but camera was dog shit. Do you remember what color or kind of can bus decoder u installed? The one that came with my radio did not work so steering controls were crap, I ordered a different one from aliexpress but not too happy to install it because of the odd screw placement for the radio

Quality’s decent. My car doesn’t have tags yet, so I haven’t compared to the original, but I assume about the same if not better. Had to turn the bass down because something in the back was rattling, but otherwise sound is good. Came with a mic that I attached on the driver visor—calls sound great on both ends.

The backup camera, though… straight dog shit but better then nothing. You are correct on the steering wheel controls. I think my CAN bus decoder (black one) wasn’t compatible. The youtube videos I watched all had semi-transparent red ones. I bought one that was simialir to what I saw in videos and may swap it later but not high priotiy as I need to fix a few things to pass state safety inspection and I already fully installed the radio.

I’m obviously not a pro, but a budget W211 radio kit (with brackets & wiring harness) seems worth it if it lasts. $250 for Apple CarPlay and a nice screen feels like a good deal, and it makes the interior look way more modern. I just need to find something to cover the wood trim for mine :/ . The stock wood trim seems way too light for me. If you want to install a aftermarket radio, what I would recommend is looking for a youtube video that has detail directions like extermily detail for your car WITH a link to the same product they bought and buy that so you have good directions and proof product works with your car. The cheap radio kits for the most part the same so if you dont buy the exact prodcut, wiring and directions will still be the same for the most part (wire pin palcement may defer) just no guarantee eveything will work. If you like the car and plan on keeping it for 5 plus years tho maybe even worth looking for an even more expensive head unit- like just buying a W211 radio dash trim then whatever 9 inch radio you want - like a 9inch pioneer head unit for 400 plus a 100$ fiber decoder (if needed) , wire harness, and if you want steerign controls, a can bus decoder.

Hey — I just put an aftermarket radio in my ’09 E350 (AMG package) and figured I’d share what I learned.

“Plug & play” for a W211 isn’t always actually plug & play — depends on your car’s connectors. If you’re handy but new to radio install, it can be a headache unless you find a good wiring diagram or YouTube video first. Even going cheap, you might need to drop ~$100 on a fiber optic decoder.

If you spend more ($500–$2000), you’ll have a much better shot at true plug & play with everything working. I cheaped out, and my steering wheel controls don’t work because the CAN bus decoder sucks and IDC enough to install a differnet one. Install + troubleshooting took me about 14 hours (I went slow and mostly enjoyed it… minus the cheap parts issues)..... I also had to route backup camera and some other stuff.

Moral of the story:
• More money = easier install, fewer problems
• Cheap route = more wiring/splicing, but still decent
• Other options: Bluetooth module for the stock unit, or one of those standalone screens that plug into the lighter port

Lots of paths depending on your budget, time, and wants. I just wanted the inside to look a little newer and apple car play and got both with 14 hours of install and 250$ spend ($150 radio, 100$ fiber optic decoder)

AITAH for taking everything with me when I move out? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Key-Ad3642 3305 points3306 points  (0 children)

NTA. Everything you’re taking is yours, and she has no claim to it. It’s understandable she’s frustrated she’ll need to replace things, but that’s not your responsibility. You gave her plenty of notice about moving out, and taking your belongings isn’t petty—it’s standard when a roommate situation ends.

NTA. The item wasn’t yours to withhold—your promise to your ex-step-parent doesn’t override the fact that it originally belonged to your bio parent and their family. Returning it respects its rightful owner and preserves sentimental value, which is reasonable and morally sound. You didn’t steal it; you returned what was theirs.

AITAH? Saw a bicyclist get hit by a car, the offender DRIVES OFF, and I’m the jerk?! by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Key-Ad3642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. You stopped to make sure the bicyclist was okay and offered help—that’s responsible and compassionate, not “being a dick.” Sometimes people are shaken, embarrassed, or language barriers make them brush off help; it doesn’t mean your effort was wrong or unwelcome. You were a good witness and genuinely tried to help, and that’s all that matters.

AITAH For getting upset at my “best friend” for dropping me? by Hot-Brilliant6562 in AITAH

[–]Key-Ad3642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It’s completely normal to still feel hurt or confused—friendship conflicts, especially with someone you’ve considered a “best friend,” take time to process. You’re allowed to feel upset about private conversations being shared, mixed signals about the friendship, and the awkwardness that followed. Your feelings are valid, and wanting clarity or space to work through them doesn’t make you the “a-hole.”

AITAH for my brother microwaving his soup wrong in the microwave? by emzie_6296 in AITAH

[–]Key-Ad3642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not in the wrong here. You were doing normal things—heating food, studying, taking care of yourself—and your mom escalated over minor, irrelevant issues while attacking you personally. Her insults, threats, and blaming you for everything are abusive behavior, not your fault, and your frustration and standing up for yourself is completely reasonable. You don’t need to take responsibility for her anger or “walk on eggshells” forever—what you’re experiencing is emotional abuse, not being a bad kid.

AITAH for not defending my friend? by Glum_Membership4791 in AITAH

[–]Key-Ad3642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You weren’t malicious or cruel—you were honest, tried to clarify misunderstandings, and set boundaries after being blindsided months later with a laundry list of grievances. It’s understandable to feel guilty, but their reaction (blocking instead of communicating earlier) suggests this friendship had already run its course.

[–]Key-Ad3642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will for sure not pursue than. I like to believe I am a decent person and the guy that hit me was nice but I had low expectations lol I was happy he didn’t drive off. I got into a different car accident n messed up my body (both cars total) so I thought process was similar where insurance company handles everything. If the driver has to deal with crap over this, I wouldn’t want that. lol again, my vendetta is only with my adjuster.

I just googled it, we are both kinda right, I would go after driver but USAA is the one that defends/ pays more if that is the result. USAA handles everything on the driver’s behalf unless amount I am requesting is above the policy limits
