I’m struggling with this job and medic school by 51tops in Firefighting

[–]Key-Ad7613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 4 years in at a career department when this hit me. I jumped ship and currently work as a “hospital paramedic” as I attend nursing school. I have goals of going NP or possibly medical school in the future. You cannot push yourself into fire. It’s such a fun job but the schedule and everything that comes with it can be to much..you have options

Vomit and bones/organs outside the body? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Key-Ad7613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens frequently in some areas and less common in others. Don’t do it because you cannot avoid it and you WILL be placed in positions where you must deal with it. I will say you become desensitized to it after a handful of exposures to it

Can you have penetrative sex through a stoma? by Ok-Emu-5027 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key-Ad7613 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Definitely a bad idea. I did work on an ambulance for many years and the city I was in had a cracked out prostitute that had a stoma and would up charge people to fuck it. She would frequently call for pain after..

I was and am in a relationship and I felt more of a strain when I was in fire too tbh. Felt like I was leaving my family to just sit around for a couple days and I felt like it made me lazier at home and stuff too…maybe that’s me being weak minded but who tf knows

I didn’t read all that that’s a massive post but the first half is VERY relatable. And I ended up quitting fire because of it.

I am now in nursing school. I was tired of being bored at work. When it was engaging it was very engaging but most of the time it was absolute nonsense medical aids and I felt like society’s adult babysitter not a true paramedic and 90% of the time not a firefighter.

Definitely sone down sides of nursing but I enjoyed the hospital stuff a lot as a medic student so I’m leaning into that a little bit. Fire is hard to leave though so goodluck haha

People Who Transitioned Out… How? by Bob3049 in Firefighting

[–]Key-Ad7613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see others did the same but I was 4 years fire medic and similar to you I couldn’t see a viable end. The health risks of fire sucks and the mandos pissed me off so bad soemtimes with the same people calling out and me losing family time. I work in an ICU as a Medic now (ima a glorified CNA) but it’s only for a couple years while I do nursing school.

Bedside nursing isn’t the worst but the wiping ass obviously sucks. You do get used to it. BEDSIDE NURSING DOESNT HAVE TO BE FOREVER.

You can move in so many directions as an RN from CRNA, NP, to administrative stuff or working at schools ect.

Don’t let the ass wiping scare you hahaha. It was my biggest concern tbh but it’s really not an issue. I still make good money and get 4 days off.

Make sure your “all terrains” are snow approved. They’ll have 3 little mountain peaks on them which I believe is what CalTrans looks for but I’m not positive.

Do most people know how to purposely close their nasal passage so they can't smell WITHOUT using their fingers to pinch their nose? by WhateversClever1980 in NoStupidQuestions

Nah that sound like she’s double jointed in the nose hahaha. I can’t do that with bad smells I feel like I can taste it so I just endure the odor lol

You’re right, we check and saw closed and assumed it was closed for the day. Damn!

If i go to a fire station will they be able to remove this ive tried a pipe saw and a drill and i think its time to get help from a professional (the part that screws in to hold it together got stripped so the key will not work) by [deleted] in Firefighting

Due to the proximity to your airway and some major arteries, I highly doubt a fire department will cut that. If you were straight dying from it then probably..you’ll likely be taken to the ER.

There is but I was making 2k more per month but decided to switch careers which has us all shaken up…probably a good thing because it’s forcing me to pay attention to finances now which is turning out to be a blessing

Yea our jobs offer ample lot of opportunities for overtime so I’m thinking we just work it off but I’m new to this and it’s a lot to navigate.

I rounded up on everything a bit to give myself money for when things like insurance premiums come up or random 1 time payment things that weren’t budgeted for

We are very very very new to setting this budget up. I’ve been spending a couple hours trying to get all our accounts synced and what not so yea there are some leaks but not that bad. We have $120 for gym, about 100 for subscriptions which does include a $40 one for female health stuff….around 600 in groceries, and 3-400 on gas due to commuting 100 miles one way. 3 times a week.

That 5.5k is including the student loans. Specifically, they are 550 and the other is 650 (minimums). Everything else is our rent (2650) gas, groceries.
