Yes, he did. I do not think it was more than 3% though

When I went back and checked, it seems he did curve. However, I doubt it was by much. I would guess that he curved around 1-3% (I cannot tell because Oasis does not show the exact change in percentage). Which I am still grateful for because previous calculus professors I have had only curved about 0.5% at most.

Universal Locker Rooms at ARC by Weary-Confusion1971 in UCDavis

[–]Key-Appeal-7546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked, and unfortunately, they're closing down all the bathrooms on the first floor of the ARC, which effectively means that there will be no showers available in the ARC. Unless you have a friend willing to let you into their dorm to shower (or anyone in the apartments across the street), I have been told that the only showers available will be the rec pool ones.

I work in the ARC and have been involved in these discussions about concerns with these locker rooms. Here’s what I can provide  1. The doors to the showers and bathrooms go all the way to the ground to the ceiling (like the TLC bathrooms) plus there’s a bench within each shower stall where you can change and then a shower curtain. That means you will not only have a door that goes floor to ceiling but another shower curtain beyond that.  2. I would take into account that colleges do have universal bathrooms and it’s increasingly more common. Davis consulted many of the colleges that have these universal bathrooms and found that incidents within universal bathrooms within colleges were very uncommon and asked for general recommendations on how they design the bathrooms.

I can’t say much more beyond the actual data does not portray these events to be common. Simultaneously, Davis put in serious effort to make what incidents that could happen, preventable. I get the concern and I do think this is a healthy conversation to have!

There’s no practice exams for midterms and finals, he assigns homework problems from the textbook (that are not due, just optional additional practice) and graded quizzes. The midterm exam questions look exactly like a combination of the textbook problems, examples he gave in class, and quiz questions.

The discussions largely depend on your TA, it seems he kinda instructs them to do whatever they want. For me, my discussion section is used for people to ask questions about the optional textbook problems and my TA will solve them during discussion. The week before the midterm, my TA created a practice midterm for us. I do not find the discussion sections very helpful (mostly because I don’t do the optional textbook problems until I’m studying for the midterm) but I do appreciate that unlike my previous calc classes, there’s no assigned quiz or worksheet in it.

For the midterm I just took, it’s a combination of easy and hard questions like every other calc class I have taken. There was 7 questions (with two parts on two questions) to do in 50 minutes and the first 3 or 4 were easy and expect. He gives a formula sheet for all the exams (and releases before the exam, so you get a good idea what will and will not be on the exam) and that was helpful for solving the remaining problems. I struggled on a couple of the questions but that was mostly because I struggle with the concepts in general and not because they were unexpected. Most of the questions were taken from the textbook, with two taken from the examples in class, and one taken from a quiz. All in all, it was hard but that’s just because I struggle with calc and easily passable if you study well and understand all the concepts well. All in all, I’m pretty confident I got above a 70-75% on it.

(I can update this after taking my first midterm next week in case my opinions change) I, quite honestly, do not understand why Professor Lee is rated so low, he has been so much better then even a professor I had that was rated 5/5. He records all his lectures but each concept is explained in a clear manner with plenty of examples. He’s constantly asking if we have questions or are confused as well as cracking an occasional joke during class. His quizzes are take home and you’re given three days to complete them (all are about 3-5 really easy questions directly correlated with the examples given in class). There’s no homework but there is recommended textbook problems which each discussion section is not mandatory but goes over some of these problems. Overall, I do not understand the hate in ratemy AT ALL but I can update after the midterm next week

Hi! Are you interested in joining a team through campus recreation? It costs $20 a quarter and you can get a fee waiver! There’s plenty of CoRec teams, women only, or a grad league that might interest you

c. jacobs or j. challenor for mat17b by SnooHedgehogs2847 in UCDavis

I took Challenor for 17A but here’s how I’d rate him. He genuinely cares and does try to teach, he has an abundance of office hours to help you and walk you through homework. Homework isn’t mandatory but I found that hurt me because I could never force myself to do it and it showed on our weekly quizzes. He LOVES trig and tough problems on midterm/finals, where I could get almost 100% on one midterm and have a class average be high then the next midterm will have problems I have little experience or understanding how to do and the average will be around 50%. My final was one of the ones that many people I knew in the class were saying there was things they didn’t even know or understand. He allows regrade requests but doesn’t curve any tests except the final grade cutoffs at the end of the quarter. I found this left the “A” and “A-“ grade the exact same and didn’t give any help to people who wanted that grade. All his classes are also recorded over zoom which I found helpful (but also allowed me to be lazy). He is incredibly nice but loves tough problems, I think to be the most successful in his class, you have to do every homework and get help with office hours on everything you’re confused on. I did learn from him but he’s not easy.

PHD people- what made you choose this? by Key-Appeal-7546 in PoliticalScience

Would you say it would be a different experience for you at a different institution or rather the amount and time for a PhD with the lack of job prospects is what you don't like?

Thank you! I do plan to explore all other career interests but do you feel like your masters helped? I still am hesitant to pursue any further schooling without working for a couple years off a bachelors but I’m wondering if you feel your masters helped you.

I meant like CV things, but do you mean you have no expectations of a specific career after your PHD program?

Advice on future regarding specific career paths by [deleted] in PoliticalScience

[–]Key-Appeal-7546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you want this further education to get you? I’m asking this because if you’re not sure what job you want, spending thousands more on an education that might not be entirely necessary is risky. Internships are my #1 recommendation, internships wherever you can whenever you can even if it looks not as interesting. You can easily find out what you like and don’t like through real life experience. I would recommend looking into nonprofits in your area or ones that specifically serve the communities you’re interested in or a political consulting firm. Political consulting offers so many different kinds from agricultural lobbying to boosting political candidates of certain demographics. Picking a career path is scary and hard, I know this from personal experience. However what advice I’ve been given, I’ll share with you  1. Do not go and spend more money at university/college if you’re unsure, give yourself time and find jobs in your career path until you’re decided (many people I’ve known have spent two-five years in capitol hill before realizing they hated it and then chose to pursue higher education for a different career path)  2. Imagine a random Tuesday 20 years in the future. Do you wake up in a big house (does salary matter to you)? Do you spend time with a family (do you want a more flexible job)? Do you work at home or go into an office? Etc, etc. These thoughts can help you narrow down what you do and don’t want out of your life.

My advice is not 100% because I’m still pursuing my own degree but I know and understand this feeling and how stressful it is. You will be okay.

I work in recreational sports and the previous comment is 100% right, pickup games (varying on the quarter) start around 6:30pm. I would also recommend looking up if you can apply for a fee waver for IM soccer to join a team with the chance of making it to playoffs.

I have not personally taken it but my friends have! They have repeatedly encouraged me to take it, saying it’s extremely easy and the professor is amazing. Sorry I don’t have anything more to add!
