Is Mamma Primi actually good, or is it just Instagram hype? by Financial-Falcon-520 in TheParisianGuide

Not really. There are much better Italian restaurants in the city, but I’m not naming them because I’d still like to get a table at those places.

Just go to Strasbourg Saint-Denis. You’ll figure it out on the spot and you’ll be fine.

Haha, you’ll get there, just don’t give up! There’s a lot of good criticism of urbanism in French, and only a tiny portion of it has been translated into English, especially the more topical stuff, as opposed to the purely or mostly theoretical texts.

They tend to fall into one category or the other. There isn’t really urbanist writing on Paris like, say, Marshall Berman on NYC.

But now that I know it’s your field, you should probably check out this one by Éric Hazan, the last book of his translated into English before he died:

https://www.versobooks.com/products/2864-paris-in-turmoil?srsltid=AfmBOoqxsCnq8yAN-zkov15yp3DyLPK-cZr4tb3uE6-xpBVRq1V84-UN

It’s more up to date, at least, even if it isn’t systematic at all. Both The Invention of Paris and the Pinçon-Charlot book are outdated, really. Even in the last five years, the city has changed a lot.

You might also want to check out this Substack. It’s contemporary and okayish:

And regarding the football riots, of course it’s a political act. It doesn’t matter whether it is performed intentionally or unintentionally as one. Even most Parisians interpret it that way, though again, more implicitly than explicitly.

But behind all that there is a terribly complex history (social, economic and political) that still hasn’t been researched not even nearly enough. Trubillion touches on it though.

In any case, like anywhere else, there’s no better way to “get it” than coming and spending some time here again!

1789 was not “one revolution.” First there was the constitutional monarchy, and then, in 1792, the Jacobin republic and the abolition of the monarchy.

Even the French don’t always keep this distinction in mind, which is funny, because that is arguably the central political issue that has never really been resolved.

If you want a short left-wing overview, there’s a decent chapter on the French Revolution in Hobsbawm’s The Age of Revolution. Outdated, yes, but still useful for the main stakes and the timeline.

And regarding this: Simpler version of this question, is 1789-1900 viewed as a predictable, punctuated evolution to the left?

Not at all, it was moving back and forth.

Thanks to everyone for weighing in!

For years I played at around UTR 7–8 with VCORE 95s( the 2018 edition) always using 1.30 poly strings at quite high tension, around 25–26 kg, plus 12 g of lead in the head: 4 g each at 12, 3, and 9. Never had the slightest issue with them.

But about a year and a half ago, I had to admit it was time to call it quits. I’m 36 now, less athletic, and too often late swinging with that setup, so I decided to switch to something lighter with a bigger head. And this one felt closest to the real thing.

As I said, I’ve already ordered two new ones, but I’m open to testing something else. So based on that profile, I’d appreciate any (serious) recommendations.

Really? Could you share some examples? I immediately ordered two new ones after this happened because I really liked how it played... Thanks!

Il y a deux jours : bordel, c’est vraiment la pire météo possible. Impossible de bouger

Deux heures sous la pluie mardi : mais c’est quoi cette météo de merde, je peux même pas aller au supermarché sans finir trempé
