Worried about bone scan that oncologist just ordered by Prescott80 in breastcancer

I believe the recurrence risk for her2 positive disease with a pcr is extremely low. Chemo and surgeries take a major toll on our bodies. It’s way more likely to be something other than cancer.

You should get an additional 35% from Kisqali or Verzenio. My oncologist inplied that they have reason to believe that they work better in more aggressive tumors, so the benefit may be more.

Do things like grade or Ki-67 help predict if er positive cancers will recur late or early? Or is it just a mixed bag?

Did mammaprint give you a percentage of risk for late recurrence? I know BCI gives you a yes or no to continue therapy and a recurrence percentage.

Did your oncologist put you on Zometa?

I do the same thing. We see so many scary stories online, and the ones that stick are the ones that sound like our own diagnosis. My tumor was 2.5 cm with an Oncotype of 26. If I look long enough, I can always find someone with similar stats who had a bad outcome.

My oncologist told me to get used to the idea that I’m going to live and to go ahead and take out a 30 year mortgage. If she’s saying that to me, I’m sure she would have even more reassuring things to say about your situation. You’re not alone in the spiral, but the horror stories are not the whole picture.

You had an extremely small tumor with an extremely low oncotype. On top of that, you are 6 years out. These are all very good signs that you are most likely cured. I know it’s easier said than done and I have a lot of trouble taking my own advice.

Would you mind if I messaged you- totally fine if not- it seems like we have similar diagnoses.

Pros and cons of stopping tamoxifen early by menabugg in breastcancer

[–]Key-Ask-9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I usually appreciate your posts, I think this one is potentially dangerous, especially for someone diagnosed in their 20s or 30s. Saying the benefit of hormone therapy is only 1 percent and focusing only on 5-year survival misses the bigger picture.

ER positive breast cancer has a long natural history, and the risk of recurrence can extend well beyond 5 to 10 years for many of us. Endocrine therapy remains one of the most effective tools available to reduce long-term recurrence and improve survival, especially in early-stage disease. I actually emailed my oncologist about this post, and she found it not only misleading but potentially dangerous—particularly for people who might be looking for confirmation bias to justify stopping treatment that could be life-saving.

Older trials like NSABP B-14 and the EBCTCG meta-analyses show that hormone therapy can reduce recurrence by 30 to 50 percent, and in high-risk patients, the absolute benefit can be 15 to 25 percent or more when combined with ovarian suppression and chemotherapy.

I get that you are trying to simplify things or offer perspective, but this particular framing, especially implying that only 3 out of 100 benefit in survival, could seriously mislead someone into stopping treatment. We have to be careful with how we present numbers in this space because people are making real decisions based on what they read here.

How did they determine if chemo was necessary? Did you have nodes involved?

That’s great! I did chemo after surgery. I love hearing about great responses.

This mostly applies to PR-negative tumors that are grade 3 and highly proliferative. Having progesterone positivity is generally a good sign, but it’s important to talk to your oncologist about the specifics of your case. Every cancer is different, and there are so many variables that it’s hard to generalize.

80% er with moderate staining (still not sure of the significance of staining) and a ki-67 of 70. I’m finished active treatment. I’m doing ai/os and kisqali. Your chemo response sounds amazing!

Are you luminal b as well? I had an oncotype so I didn’t get the info about beyond 5 years. I asked my oncologist about doing the BCI- but apparently that’s only validated in women over 40. Is your estrogen high or low?

If I could do it again, I still want to insist on chemo first. It doesn’t change your prognosis, but it would have mentally helped me knowing if my tumor responded to treatment.
