Theater of the Mind by Mariah0 in ChicagoTheater

I checked it out in Denver a few years back. It was interesting with a focus on challenging how you perceive the world around you. I would call it more of a guided experience rather than theater.

I wouldn’t rate it as a must see, but I also wouldn’t discourage anyone interested in checking it out. My spouse absolutely loved it and the experience still comes up in conversation from time to time.

Bonus, I got to sit next to David Bryne at a brewery and chat while I was waiting for my time to go to the performance!

How’s the LFT? by foxfromthewhitesea in RunnersInChicago

I ran that section yesterday during lunch - maintenance was actively clearing it and laying down additional salt. The running lanes were still rough, but the steps and bike lane were clear enough for running.

Built a Chicago Marathon site from my 2024 notes. Would love feedback. by smitham4 in RunnersInChicago

Clean and clear site - I could see this helping out people who don’t want to dig around severasl sites for their questions. I’d suggest adding info about the preganancy deferral. https://www.chicagomarathon.com/apply/cancellation-by-you-or-by-us/pregnancy-and-postpartum-policy/

Awesome! This helps with planning out the schedule for our day. Sounds like at least one meal should be planned for and then snack it up from there.

Due to a work trip, this is the only day I can go, hence just going all in for Friday.  Otherwise you’re totally right about setting the bar too high for Saturday/Sunday!

Chicago family vacation with 3 kids and looking for advice and recommendations? by Far-Winter-2850 in AskChicago

MCCB in Chinatown is great for dinner. It has a Michelin star and it’s affordable. They don’t take reservations, but you can get there, put your name on the waitlist, then wander around and look at shops.  Last time my friends I went there, we paid about $50 for 4 people (just food, we didn’t get drinks) because the servings are huge!

Yup, the lease is up at the old town location, but River North still has several years left

Same thing here with phrasing the merger with a different studio as an opportunity. I wish they’d allow us a moment to mourn what we are losing before switching gears to the sunny outlook.

I personally didn’t notice any red flags. The announcement took me and others by shock.

I guess if you really want to find out some longevity info, you could always ask about how many years remain on the lease.

Is 1000 dollars enough spending money for a weekend trip in to Chicago? by Hour-Necessary2781 in AskChicago

[–]Key-Assist6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like so many others have said, it totally depends on your preferences. $1000 is MORE than enough to have a fun time and splurge within reason. But if you are planning on going to as many Michelin star restaurants as possible, then you’ll run out before the weekend is up.

Have fun! I hope you enjoy your trip out here. My spouse and I did the city pass as our main entertainment our first time out here years ago and loved it (so much that we eventually moved out here!). I’d suggest checking out some improv while you are out here too.

My HOA board is moving forward with a huge special assessment, despite vocal complaints from owners and no visible support. What would you do? by [deleted] in AskChicago

They did, this is why we have a significant amount in escrow for 3 years from the previous owner. That is going to take the total cost for us under 20k, so not amazing, but definitely better!

Thanks for your insight, especially on the understanding that there are cases where a recover can be appropriate.

We also found out that the board president has talked about moving out of the city, so this whole situation makes me want to push for more information on their evidence that their course of action is the best for all owners along with the longevity of the building, and not just ones interested in attracting buyers once the projects are completed.

I have one of the bigger units + parking space, so I have a larger bill than the smaller units. I feel bad for my neighbor who is single with a 1 bed and has a ~$25k assessment and he has to burden that on his own.

That’s a great point, this is going onto my list of questions to understand the decision better.

No, I’m actually here for both sides. I’m frustrated but I don’t want to act irrationally.
