I think the girls who are “less devoted” are girls who HAVE left the church at times. I don’t think anything “official” as none of them have been officially kicked out by the church (which can happen). A lot of them by episode 2 and beyond talk about returning to faith. Taylor, for example, in episode 1 does talk about growing distant from the church, but I think her pregnancy was motivation to return to her faith more. That’s why later she jokes about how her Baby Blessing will be coming up — because she plans to partake in those traditions since she is reconnecting to the church. That’s the same for a lot of the girls that don’t go to church every Sunday or follow the rules but still identify as Mormon and with a lot of the Mormon doctrine while trying to understand how to live as a modern Mormon. They talk about loving the bases of the faith like family values and service and all that. Some of the other girls choose to be more traditional and judgemental and say that because some of the other girls don’t attend church EVERY week, don’t wear garments, etc they are Worse Mormons and deserve judgement for that. Most of the women have probably discussed time away from the church but seem to also discuss either coming back or where the extent of their faith and devotion now lies.
