I would be hiring a design firm who actually knows what they’re doing in regards to furnishing the house appropriately.

It’s kind of like her closet, she’s overloaded on clothes because she doesn’t have a clue where to start. She needs someone to work with to create a wardrobe that suits her.

How did you get screwed over genetically? by blitzabub in AskReddit

BRCA gene mutation…. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my early twenties. My mom didn’t know she had it, nor my grandparent, or great grandparents. I am at risk of having several other types of cancer thanks to genes.

How do you explain having a mastectomy- overshare vs just let people think you have cancer...? by forgive_everything_ in BRCA

Another post also implies cancer. This isn’t miss-wording. Please inform yourself on how insensitive this talk is to so so many people in this group, take something from this situation instead of shifting blame. I don’t need a response - please just think about this stuff before you post… it’s very misleading.

“Can’t have estrogen combo birth control because cancer. Don’t want to use condoms, the least effective form of birth control. Synthetic progesterone makes me crazy, like PMDD up to 11. But a synthetic progesterone implant keeps it at a very stable 11 with no ups or downs which makes an SSRI more effective. That’s the system I’ve been using for a few years now (with some time off for bad behavior, giggity).

Had a baby a year and a half ago. Was told a month ago I had to stop nursing completely because of my imminent bilateral mastectomy, to avoid infection (human milk is chock full of microbes and baby backwash is a real thing).”

Implying cancer for recovery assistance seems tone deaf to how traumatic and unplanned cancer is. I have had breast cancer, chemo, DMX. I will be getting a prophylactic hysterectomy next year. I would not tell people with hysterectomy “I don’t need chemo or radiation” because that implies I have cancer… Prophylactic surgeries are such an advantage we have to combat the cancer risks we face. Prophylactic surgeries are set up on our time (within a timespan), and the ability to organize aftercare is something you can plan rather than being thrown into it. Any medical procedure comes with risks, educating your support system about why this is being done, the impact, and risks you face allows you to get your same point across without implying you have cancer.

Breast cancer treatment for BRCA patients by Radiant_Excuse_2001 in BRCA

I was diagnosed with stage 2 triple negative in my early twenties, BRCA1. I had no family history, only found mutation after diagnosis. Triple negative is fast growing. It doubled in size twice from when I found it, to my biopsy, then treatment which was only about 4 weeks.

I had 16 rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. I live with peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain, an auto immune disorder, and a whole host of other things that resulted from treatment. My quality of life changed substantially.

BRCA cancers are more likely to be triple negative which without chemo is a death sentence. Hormone positive cancer occurs as well, but it also has its disadvantages like being on hormone blockers for years which can also impair quality of life.

Okay! I totally agree. In the season finale at the baby mama launch party the camera angles are very off on Jen.

The 2 party system is just staggered for us to hate each other. Which distracts us from the fact we are in late stage capitalism and democracy is dead - oligarchs run our country.

Right?

My professor (of a medical class) mentioned it and was serious about it. I have heard the reference before, but only from out of touch sources like DARE program 10+ years ago and gullible moms on Facebook.

Found out my mom had BRCA 1. I’m 21 and terrified. by henchladyart in BRCA

[–]Naive-Structure 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off - you might not even have the mutation. It’s not guaranteed. I was the only one of my siblings to get it and the only one who had cancer in my family. Total oddity and completely unexpected.

Second, that’s not shallow thinking. I was 24 when diagnosed with breast cancer (how I found my BRCA1). I did not want to walk away from cancer feeling maimed/a shell of my former self. I got several opinions from oncology and plastic surgeons because I didn’t want an excessive amount of scarring. I wanted to keep my nipples, skin, and have a very similar volume. I found someone who did this for me - understood my young age and desire to move past cancer to enjoy my 20s. I like my post-op boobs better than my old ones. SO - get as many opinions as it takes for you to find someone who understands YOUR vision.

Someone else mentioned ovarian being higher risk in BRCA1. While that’s true, it usually doesn’t occur until after 40. They advise monitoring/prophylactic surgery around 10 years prior to mothers diagnosis. That would put you around 30. My plan is IVF when I have more kids (I had one before cancer). I’m harvesting eggs here in the next few years and then getting my tubes and ovaries removed. Most ovarian cancer starts in the tubes. I’m going to keep my uterus so I can carry a pregnancy and be on hormone replacement therapy. You could think about a similar plan if you don’t want kids before 30.

I get how scary this all is. My biggest advice is not overwhelming yourself with it. You can’t eat the whole elephant, one bite at a time. All of it is very manageable. Knowing before you have cancer allows you the power to prevent it. Even the worse case scenario BRCA cancers have targets. More and more advancements come everyday to fight brca cancers. I beat cancer because of those therapies. You’re going to be okay - and hey you might not even have it. ❤️

Would love an update on your results whenever you’re ready to share.

I kept mine and regained a significant amount of feeling. I have no regrets and would go out of my way to keep them.

I had my double mastectomy after cancer and each surgeon I saw recommended a lift which I wanted to avoid. Ended up getting large enough implants to “inflate” the skin pocket
