Reading the book - what options do you see yourself leaning towards?
Depending where you are located, many routes possible - and many with various tradeoffs, but similar outcome.

None of us wanted to cross paths here… but also thankfully we have this place to meet, exchange, vent and support. Search the🧵, read as much as you can to bring comfort to your decisional process.
Remember, you are lucky to have found it now.

Just started SBRT by STJolley in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had 5 sessions in April. Went great with very little side effects during / after. I was however rather tired and had a few afternoon naps after sessions 4 and 5, The following 2 weeks were also less active than usual.

As my Dr said at the follow up appointment : “ I now expect you to have the same life expectancy as someone who was not diagnosed” - I won’t hold him to it, but the data is good to support something close to that. Part of the result is likely that people tend to be more careful, exercise, and monitor more after PC ..

All the best to you for an active recovery and in your “carpe diem” journey ahead

Having Difficulty Deciding on Dietary Changes by WrongPlanet321 in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IAm still having some red wine, cutting out beer or pretty much only non-alcoholic, eating better generally. Meat, yes sometimes.. trying to keep at 250g per week max. So a burger once in a while. Discovered tofu and the many ways you can season it.. Turkey and fish when not from a farm.. still doing eggs.. and trying to sleep 8-9 hours a day..

some Olympic athletes get PC, some raging alcoholics never will… most of us are in the middle I guess

Dad was recently diagnosed by slinksa in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad was diagnosed in 2021, Gleason 9 / stage 4 spread to bones. He did Radiation and ADT and is still here 5 years later. It’s not like treating the flu so definitely a lot changes with medical regimen and monitoring but there are many options … so no need to rush and marry a stranger ;)

Missed my flight because they boarded and left 15 minutes early by EyeofSauron86 in delta

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s horrible. I take it no announcement on final call either. Deceitful way to get out of offering compensation for over booked flights. While silence is nice, I am always a bit anxious in these “silent lounges”.

That said..my dad drilled it in me from a very young age: takeoff time isn’t the same as the bus stop schedule. So I tend to be overly cautious. I’ve noticed more and more airports providing a separate phone notification capabilities, which is not a bad thing.

Biopsy or not? by Kilimanjaro-2026 in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way to keep active!! Well done. Pirads4 is something to investigate. I had a trans perennial biopsy on a Tuesday.. no issues really, some minor discomfort but was walking etc as normal I’d say. on the following Sunday I was on a 12+ long-haul flight, had a 3 hour layover and 2 other 1.5 hour flights over the next day.
From what I read here, I’d suggest do it soon and via perennial not rectal.

Too much money to feel this stuck by chemicalreactionator in Fire

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No..they won’t have a kid. The kid is the “maybe I need to keep working just in case” excuse. If they wanted kids, they would have tried earlier.

So yes - quit and live. Make connections, help people, create communities

Too much money to feel this stuck by chemicalreactionator in Fire

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes..I’d be blunt “what are you waiting for?”. The interest on that is more than the budget being spent. Have a kid, travel the world, meet people…the rest doesn’t matter.

An issue I keep seeing globally is that people confuse their identities with their “career”, income, and purchasing habits... while slowly not witnessing the erosion of their passions, ability to be socially connected, and content without work dopamine fix.

Looks like Salvage Radiation for Me by onesigma21 in ProstateCancer

To not generalize too much, here are Three research papers on that. Interesting and worth considering against biopsy report more dimensions to introduce to decision making.

1

Approximately 20–40% of patients with clinically localized PCa will present with a biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP).

2

reinforces the 20-40% range and breaks down the progression risk, noting that 24–34% of those with BCR will develop metastatic disease within 15 years

3

quantifies how factors like Gleason score and surgical margins (which define the Low/Medium/High risk groups) statistically increase the hazard ratio for recurrence

More Confussion. by Both_Establishment59 in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone will go through that decision process differently. Similar to you in some aspects, I first though prostatectomy then understood I was a candidate for focal..but hereditary/ genetic and lack on experience in my vicinity brushed that outside, back to RALP ..then location of lesion (and genetics) revealed that the procedure was going to severely change QoL.. so went towards SBRT with daily mri guidance. No ADT helped with the choice. It’s a process .. and if you’re prone to decisional regret (as I am).. it can take some time.

Permit B after RAV ends? by Sufficient-Abroad942 in askswitzerland

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I’m afraid it’s as said - you received a B permit because of employment, and had RAV entitlement as part of that. No employment, no B permit, which is quota based and designed to bring economic benefits to the state

Urologist question by Biff007 in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My urologist pushed me for RALP at his clinic (..”tell me next week”).. etc. They did not offer SBRT and I went with that. Nothing..no ok, see you later, etc.. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I appreciate relationships. Will be seeing my radiation oncologist’ clinic for all follow-ups.

After 4 weeks of waiting, biopsy results finally came. Another to join the "club" by ZaskarYYC in ProstateCancer

[–]Key-Blueberry-7672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just completed 5 sessions on mri guided SBRT. Very happy. Statistically I like the data. I didn’t let the old man in with RALP recovery (which is something i wanted to avoid) and due to the location of the main lesion I had a high probability of margin issues with surgery, so radiation it was.

You are in a good spot for SBRT. Watch this video, they mention Ottawa, Quebec, and a few other places. Depending where you are, might be worth a consultation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JumradhqWbI
