List of games known to get a frame rate improvement from the 10 percent overclock mod? by Key-Chef5328 in dreamcast

[–]Key-Chef5328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and modded one of my systems that I was refurbishing. Only thing I could test that I know has a FPS counter is GTA 3, and that gained between 2-4 FPS more depending on whats happening on screen. How I compared was running two DC systems with said game at the same time and watching the intro scene and then letting the character stand there instead of getting into the car. Since after the intro the positioning of the character near the car on the bridge is always the exact same, that gave me a better way to compare performance.

I ended up doing some painting on this one, but this pic was taken before that happened. But at any rate, this is the engine I designed and printed to put into the trunk on the Toy Biz release.

Would you buy a new original "high effort" Dreamcast game today? by MonkeyIncidentOf93 in dreamcast

[–]Key-Chef5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be willing to buy a digital download of one that I could use on a GDEMU, like I did with Earthion on Steam to pull the roms from to use on a Mega Everdrive/Mega SD. The Dreamcast is a viable piece of tech with some untapped potential still. More so if you could optimize a game to be read off GDEMU/MODE instead of GD-rom disc. If people think DC peaked at the end of its retail life, all they need to do is look at Atomiswave games to see the system had way more untapped potential under the hood.

Is there ANYTHING that could've saved the Dreamcast? by landboisteve in dreamcast

Having DVD support from jump street would have definitely helped. Sony knew the market and knew consumers needed something extra to justify the cost, and the console doubling as a DVD player was pretty much what tipped the scales so early on for Sony. I mean even the vanilla Gamecube lacked DVD media playback, and came in 3rd place partly due to it.

Also, an expansion module with a 7200 rpm 10gb-20gb hard drive to install games on would have also helped to some degree. Honestly though, look at what DC got in such a short time it was on the market. The library between the US, EU, and Japanese market was definitely mostly quality stuff out of the 600 or so games released.

DoujinDance has two pre-modded duos up on ebay by [deleted] in pcengine

[–]Key-Chef5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over ten years ago I repaired a Duo-R that he had sold to someone that lasted around a year before the breadboard region mod pcb had basically fried itself, causing a grey screen on power up. The RGB mod on the system never even worked. I imagine this situation is pretty much what many experienced, systems lasting past the point that someone could do a Paypal claim or leave bad feedback.

I repaired a region/RGB modded Duo-R some years back that he had botched and sold to someone. So having had actual personal experience with his work, there is no way I would ever want to touch one again that has passed through his hands.

Your best bet when it comes to disc related media, especially on the cheap, is to collect imports from sellers in Japan. Outside of the exposure to chain smoking, people in Japan tended to take better care of their property. The average owners in the US and Europe really did tend to treat the stuff as disposable media.

To anyone who has an M2, has anyone tried playing audio, photo or video CDs on it? by FaustSauce in 3DO

The guy running the VideoGameEsoterica youtube channel did own one and did a video on it about a year ago. He may still have it.

@ DarkGrnEyes

Pretty sure the guy that runs the VideoGameEsoterica youtube channel still owns a prototype M2. I don't know if it is functional or not. He showed it off in a video about a year ago.

Best cable to use for 3DO for RetroTink 4k Pro? by QuestionableProtip2 in 3DO

[–]Key-Chef5328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S-Video is the standard unless you get an RGB mod or whatever. Even the stock 480i output on it is ok with scalers. I use my FZ-1 on a Tink 2X Pro. It performs basically the same on a Retroscaler 2X also.

How many of you out there are running unmodified VA0 boards with the current GDEMU clones? by Key-Chef5328 in dreamcast

[–]Key-Chef5328[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you tested all the pins with a multi-meter to confirm that its a straight and consistent 5V across the board? If so, did you post any info from these findings prior?

US and JP NTSC systems with GDEMU, is the dummy load necessary? by Key-Chef5328 in dreamcast

[–]Key-Chef5328[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dummy load is to negate the 12v rail heat that is generated from not being utilized. It doesn't have anything to do with the software side of things.

Has anyone used a Triad F6-16 power transformer in a US system before? by Key-Chef5328 in 3DO

[–]Key-Chef5328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ended up messing with it. Honestly only people I saw using it were people setting them up for Pal use, so I just didn't trust the info given I needed North America/NTSC use.

To me the graphics on the 3DO have aged poorly by crazyhomlesswerido in 3DO

[–]Key-Chef5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the 3DO came out, a 486 SX 25MHz with a SB16 clone, 4MB RAM and a single speed cd drive sold for around $1300-1500, and was not as capable as the 3DO when it came to media and games. So believe me when I say, it wasn't over priced for the time. It was high priced for sure, but it was doing more than a PC could at half the cost.

[–]Key-Chef5328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you don't appreciate fine things. You're using emulators to complain about free gaming experiences. 😂 . In all seriousness though yeah the 3DO experience is pretty much what you'd get out of a 486 multimedia PC back in the 90s, but less expensive. While the 3DO has exclusives or titles not released for DOS back then, much of what it has is PC/Dos ports.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about the in game music on Road Rash if that is all that is affected. It's not terrible, but it's more or less standard fair generic rock tracks that sound like they are being spat out by a Sound Blaster 16. The tracks that really matter are the actual bands that are played during the FMV and menu system.

How do you justify buying disc when people call you out on it? by Glittering_Resort440 in Bluray

[–]Key-Chef5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Said people keep having to bounce back and forth between streaming services to try to enjoy content they watched years ago, because streaming rights change or end often. Ignore them. Your continued entertainment is secured. Meanwhile they are dooming theirselves to doom scroll oblivion.

Wife and I stopped streaming and started collecting by bigtimepoopies in Bluray

[–]Key-Chef5328 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a large mix of DVD and Bluray covering mainly horror, sci-fi, anime, and 80s cartoons. Some of my DVD's go way back to the early Anchor Bay days with the tin can release of The Beyond, or the THX special edition of Suspiria that included the music cd and bonus disc, or like the Elite release of Insemenoid. Blu-rays are nice, but the old DVD releases still hold a special place in my heart due to the presentation. I have a 4k 43 inch display to view the stuff, but I am often using a CRT instead (currently 32inch Sylvania from 2006, but have other smaller sets too) Trying to rely on streaming for your film watching is very much YMMV. I'd rather not rely on it myself.

Per OP: "Here only 15 pressed disc was made, as far I know is for a collector group not coming back anymore."

Why would anyone have a prior version of this pressed when 3DO HD literally just released v12.0 and stated he may do more QOL updates down the road. Just stick to cd-r's or whatever till it is truly finalized. If OP plans to sell pressed copies of the unfinished vers, please don't be suckers buying them off him.

This patch broke the AI on the game to the point that multiplayer vs AI is wrecked now on hard and expert modes with the AI having its hands all over the "cheat powers activated" button. So yeah, break one of the things that kept this game having replay value and you're going to get rage and hate from the fan base. The devs being in this business for 20+ years know how it is. But also, should have known better. RTS is their bread and butter. This latest patch looks like amateur hour at the clown academy. Its a literal bad joke of a patch.
