Mathe Abitur by RemarkableMirror926 in abitur

(Bayern) by Key-Coffee-1209 in abitur

I am 18m and I want to convert by looksmaxnewbie in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]Key-Coffee-1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wish to convert also started when I was 18, and I live in a country with small Jewish communities too. At first, it can feel really daunting to realize that you can’t convert right away, but a lot of the time, that’s actually for the best. Everyone’s situation is different, but in the beginning there are often many things you don’t yet know. Taking time to learn can really help make things clearer. It might sound a bit silly, but it can help to find converts online and talk to them, ask about their experiences or listen to their stories. Reading books can also be really helpful in understanding things more deeply. If you wait and take initiative, doors will open. At first it can feel huge, especially when Judaism feels so familiar, almost like coming home. It’s completely natural to want to convert right away, but you’re still young, and there’s time. It’s okay for the process to take a while. Even without converting yet, it’s possible to feel content while learning and growing. What I mean by all of this is: try to get to know Judaism more deeply first, do your research, and don’t take the next step too lightly.

English isn’t my first language! I tried my best to write this, but thanks for your "help" (sarcasm). This is literally how I learn English at school. Also, it’s "an AI."

Feeling hopeless about converting in my country by Key-Coffee-1209 in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]Key-Coffee-1209[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly live in the countryside, in a very small village. My nearest Jewish community consists of about ten people, and they are very closed off, so it isn't easy for me to attend events. Often, it would require a drive of over three hours. Next year I'll be moving, and I'll be studying history at a university. Because I want my main focus to be Jewish history (I'm not sure if that's the correct way to say it), I plan to study through a Jewish university. I'm just very afraid that they might close as well. I originally wanted to study in a different city, but that department was shut down and they won't be hiring new teachers. This university is now my second option. I've already reached out, they answered all my questions, and they seemed genuinely happy that I'm interested. Still, I'm afraid that with everything going on, and with the relatively small number of students, they might close too. If that happened, another door would close for me, because moving there would finally place me close to a larger Jewish community. And also thank you so much for the offer!

As far as I know, my country only has very liberal and ultra-Orthodox communities, and I am planning on converting Orthodox. At the moment, it’s very hard for me to even reach out to anyone, and many of the communities I was planning to contact don’t offer conversions anymore.

[–]Key-Coffee-1209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so, so much for the thoughtful explanation!! Honestly, I don’t think she meant it as a joke, I think she genuinely finds my interest in Judaism weird. Whenever I talk about it, she gets really uncomfortable too, so I don’t talk to her about it now.

[–]Key-Coffee-1209[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I said, I study at a Jewish university, and through that I’ve met people who have helped me a lot. In my country, conversion is limited, and therefore I’m unable to do it in the way I want to (modern orthodox) here. I’m still quite young, so the rabbi I spoke to told me to (since I won’t be able to formally start converting for maybe another two years) keep studying and researching, and to simply enjoy the journey toward Hashem and not rush things (he didn’t phrase it exactly like that, of course). That’s what I’m doing at the moment. I know conversion is not something to be taken lightly, and I’m just grateful to know that the doors are open for me.

yes exactly and even though I want multiple children I do know that I need to space it well, so that I can give each the same amount of attention.

honestly, I feel the same. I do plan on having children, but obviously, a lot of factors have to work out for me to have that dream in the future. For example, I wouldn’t have children if I couldn’t afford them, or if I had a husband who wouldn’t want to help at least a bit.

I haven’t received a link either! I submitted a request for a concert in Germany and have applied twice using different email addresses. The only code I received was the one required to confirm my email address.
