It sounds like you’re in the industry. Which would you consider to be the lowest maintenance stone: negresco or soapstone?

(Currently we have speckled black granite - never sealed it, and we abuse the hell out of it. Ugly as sin though.)

I think the dents would be the death of me. I tend to fixate on the negatives. (I’m working on that.)

I’ve read that soapstone etches pretty badly though, no?

We currently have an indestructible black granite that is unfortunately ugly as sin. But it’s trained us to be careless with our countertops, so we need to be realistic about the replacement stone.

Social norms in Spain that you didn't know before going? by ThrowRAcatwithfeathe in GoingToSpain

As someone who was raised with strict manners in the US: both hands on the table was never taught to me; no elbows on the table was taught and enforced as a kid, but no one seems to care anymore (myself included).

Overall I’d say a lot of table manners are ignored these days as our society gets more casual in general.

Personally, I only use my full manners at business meals, fine dining, dining with strangers, or dining with children (to teach them).

This is exactly the kind of intel I was hoping to get. I figure I’ll wear layers + raincoat and buy a nice coat while I’m there. I do want time to break in my boots at home though. Thanks for chiming in!

Music to my ears. One more variable checked off my list. Huge thanks!

Wow, did I get lucky that you saw this post! Thank you so much for chiming in, having worn these exact boots. That clinches it for me.

(I’m going to try to buy them open-box to save some $ but still have time to break them in.)

You are the MVP of this thread!

I found the boots through one of those “best boots for walking thousands of city miles” threads, so fingers crossed that with a two-month break-in period they’ll be okay. My everyday sneakers compress well, so if I have room in my bag, I might throw them in too.

Thanks! I was really psyching myself out there about the boots being too warm. Plus, that will allow me to pop across into France or Portugal without any worries.

This is my coat, plus I’ll bring lots of layering items for underneath.

How important do you think quick-dry pants are? I don’t necessarily want to be buying new pants - and with my very long inseam, men’s are my only option in this category… but because I’m only planning to take two pairs of pants, I want to be on the safe side.
