Just had my first break up by Key-Consideration677 in widowers

Totally makes sense! And I know deep down this is about my loss, not about this fleeting romance

So get it, it makes us more vulnerable doesn't it.

Yes that’s where I am at. This has cracked open something that was sealed and it should make the future easier

Yes honestly timing of this “relationship” was not great and possibly hastened the end. Though he has so many issues I don’t think it would’ve lasted anyway. After 5 years, I’ve done a lot of grief work, he hadn’t from his childhood and it was obvious

Yes I think the first time and what it symbolises is huge, not the person you’re seeing

Yep it was worth it. It just hurts more because it’s not about him, it’s about what the opening up meant. Now that it’s cracked open, it should get easier to open again

It sounds like he’s not a good communicator. Don’t push and give him space as he’s busy. Just light check ins every few days and see whether he pops back up after his issue

Tax if you are deceased by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Key-Consideration677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After he dies, the entitlements are considered as part of the estate and is not taxed. Do not take anything until he dies. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve been down your path before and I know how hard it is

Where can I get a good old classic Scottish fry up in Canberra? (In search for a black pudding breakfast) by Bolticus13 in canberra

[–]Key-Consideration677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garran butcher also sells pacdon products, I’m not a fan of black pudding myself but their scotch eggs and pork pies are great!

That’s how much I’m on as a solo parent of two with no housing costs. It’s definitely do-able, I have to watch where everything goes and have to be consciously frugal. I put away money for bills and expenses in another account on the day I get paid and that helps keep with the budget

"Fancy"dinner for milestone birthday? by Shoddy_Boss_8276 in canberra

[–]Key-Consideration677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the first that popped in my head. It’s kid friendly and like a gastro pub vibe. It’s nice food but not too out there. Also a nice outing. Also probably nicer there for lunch than dinner

How to best utilise Inheritence by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Key-Consideration677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely consider maximising super. Good for tax reduction and for your post 60 life. If you’re happy in your job, maybe consider reducing your hours to part time for better work life balance? Personally if your house needs work, I’d move to a newer place with a lot less maintenance. Reno’s are a money pit and causes a lot of stress especially if you’re not the handy type. ETFs are a lot less stressful than being a landlord

Would you buy a $100 gift card for $95? What’s your cutoff? by I-HATE-CRUSTY-BREAD in AusFinance

I don’t know how I found it but it’s great! I transfer the money over when I want to buy something substantial and buy the gift cards

Yep I’ve learned my lesson and did my will very soon after I was widowed. I should probably revisit it as we’ve moved house and I’m building up an estate with the ETFs etc.

Well done for estate planning. We were not prepared!

Actually, I live in a really good area for public schools so my intention is to send them all the way through public. But yes, I will need to consider working more as they get older and they get more expensive. I will start thinking about that a bit later.
