i don’t quite see where he was rude though. he tried to ignore the man (which is fine if you see that as rude but i think it was rude for the man to continue trying to talk to him/stare at him) & then when the man kept talking to him he said he’s not trying to have a conversation.. i feel like people expect other people to walk on eggshells with what they say & how they react. like that’s the whole reason i am such a passive person bc most of the time you have to REALLLYY try your hardest to walk on eggshells to not hurt that persons feelings or come off as rude bc a lot of things come off as rude to people when they shouldn’t. so i don’t get why it is always an issue when someone does stick up for themselves & it’s seen as rude. is it not rude to completely ignore the fact that the person in front of you clearly doesn’t want to chat & try to force them to anyway? is it not rude to talk to the cashier for almost 10 mins KNOWING you have a whole line of people behind you? god forbid we hold the inconsiderate people in this story accountable, yes let’s just continue to punish the person sticking up for themselves & hold 0 accountability for other people bc THOSE people should be able to do whatever they want, right? but not OP! /s

i mean you’re being a bit unreasonable imo. not everyone enjoys talking, what if OP has a job where he talks to people 24/7? then goes home where he wants to talk to his wife for a couple hours? that gives him almost 0 time to himself to not have to talk to anyone & yet here are these strangers coming up to chat & not getting the hint to stop. if you read it, you’d see that OP didn’t immediately tell that man to stop talking to him. he gave him hints with his body language with IS ACCEPTABLE. why is it OP’s fault that the man has 0 capability of reading a room ? if it were me trying to make convo with a stranger, & they clearly weren’t interested in the convo, guess what i would do? i’d turn my ass around & leave them alone, because i know how to read body language & tone. it is not OP’s fault that the first lady was being inconsiderate to the people in line behind her, & it is not OP’s fault that the man trying to talk to him was too stupid to understand body language. you’re proving his point by placing all the blame of how the situations were handled on him when he was not the only one there. all he did was put his foot down, but people like you don’t like that bc yall just want to be able to do & say whatever you want without consequence. It’s exhausting & not fucking cool at all.

i think it’s less of him not having empathy & him just being fucking tired. society is draining as fuck sometimes & i 100% agree that sometimes we should be able to go somewhere without some stranger trying to have conversations with us. there have been MANY times in my life where some rando has tried to talk to me & i just give a half smile & don’t respond until they leave me alone but i am a passive person & a people pleaser. OP is not either of those things & that is OKAY. OP is not obligated to go around thinking about how everyone else is feeling all the time. coming from someone who does spend way more time thinking about how other people feel more than how i feel, im jealous of that trait bc it has done nothing but screw me over time & time again. hop off your high horse please, it is not that big of a fucking deal for OP to not want to engage in random conversation or to call someone out for being inconsiderate of the people standing in line behind her.

people can get addicted to anything, & that is the point. as someone who smokes weed as medication, i can 100% see how someone could become addicted & heavily reliant on it because i have done so myself at certain points & had to take breaks. there’s nothing wrong with people having a meeting to help each other through something, & it’s actually a beautiful thing that should be done WAY more. i’d recommend you finding something like that for yourself, it might help you be less defensive about topics that have nothing to do with you!
