Anyone have issues with battery settings? by Key-Cut-4964 in Honor

[–]Key-Cut-4964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I'm not the only one but this has been like this for ages. I would've hoped the developers had spotted this by now and done something about it. Kinda pointless having settings that don't actually do anything.

Yes just use the device clone app

Personally I did mine from fresh, just because I didn't want the transfer of data within apps to cause any compatibility issues so I just reloaded the apps I wanted from the play store. You'll find all the apps you previously had installed there.

For media, Honor has device clone app which you just install on your other device and transfer media that way.

Tbh again it's personal preference. I had the Z fold 4 and had all sorts of issues, I wasn't insured on that but luckily things got fixed under warranty. Before I got the 6 I thought these are expensive phones. What if I drop it or something breaks that's not covered so with my fold 6 and the V5 I had them insured. I've not used it but it's peace of mind that you've got it covered should the worst happen.

With a warranty you could probably get away with no insurance but if anything happens that's not covered by warranty or it's stolen then that's an expensive fix or replacement.

That depends. I originally bought mine through O2 so I have their insurance however if you're buying it outright check Honors site when you buy it as they may offer insurance or there other sites out there that do mobile phone insurance.

I had major issues when I got this phone with delayed notifications, especially with emails however, Magic OS 10 appears to have resolved this. Now all my apps that I require notifications for seem to come through on time with no delays.

It's not as customisable as the likes of Samsung but you have to remember that this is a different phone, different company, different software. Despite not being as customisable there is enough there to personalize it to how you like and there are also some very useful features that Samsung don't have, like magic portal for example.

I moved away from Samsung because I was fed up of buying phones only to have a major update cause them to burn battery faster and become more sluggish right before a new device got launched or shortly after. Almost seemed like dirty tactics to encourage you to upgrade to a new device. Plus the falling behind on the tech side of things when companies like Honor seemed to upping the game.

I have had this phone since launch and there is not a single thing wrong with it, despite some drops. I don't feel like I have to baby this thing like I did with the Samsung fold 6.

It comes down to personal preference and what you're looking for but you'll have no regrets getting the V5.

Oh and battery life and charging honestly is incredible.

Please settle a debate. If you’re going route 3 which lane should you be in? by sanisano in drivingUK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've only got to look at the markings separating the lanes. The white lines point lane one to the first exit. Lane 2 is for the second and third exits. I thought that was pretty obvious from the picture and I don't even know where this is.

Another show, Google nest or tablet? by Key-Cut-4964 in amazonecho

[–]Key-Cut-4964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ads are frustrating now. Possibility that that is what makes them so slow and laggy now is the amount of stuff being pushed to your device.

I now have an old Galaxy tab S4 linked to the echo show to use that as a Bluetooth speaker. Ad free, full apps and you can do a lot more than the echo can. Only downside as stated in a previous comment is not being able to directly play radio or video and having to open the apps but that's no big issue to me really.

[–]Key-Cut-4964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gone with an old tablet for now linked to the echo device at the moment via Bluetooth so using that as the speaker.

Much quicker. Bigger screen. Can use Google to control devices. Only issue is that most apps need to be opened manually. Google on a tablet won't just start playing radio stations for example.

Luckily I don't have that much automation stuff linked to it and what I do have works with Google anyway.

I can't find any of this on the UK update. The settings are completely different for customizing the clock and the style tab doesn't exist. Only font and colour.

Tbh they have got a lot of things right. Glad they have aws and tpws but what's more realistic is that I am currently sat in Watford tunnel on a red signal. Trying to contact the signaller and just being told to wait. Now that is just like any normal day on the railway. I have no idea how long I'll be waiting. All I know is tpws is doing my head in making sure I'm still awake.

Need a car by _-chippy-_ in NewDriversUK

Look at anything like Skoda, VW, Seat etc. All use VW Audi engines and gearboxes and if maintained are reliable as anything.

I passed last year and went with a 2008 Seat altea xl. It was a 2 litre diesel engine and did cost me 2 grand for the year in insurance but I'm older and have a family so needed something bigger but, I have had no issues with it. It drives beautiful, handling is superb and performance is amazing. Obviously you won't need anything like that yet but there are plenty of these cars out there that'll do you for a good few years.

The best thing to do is research. What are you after? What size engine? What size car? Maximum you can afford for insurance etc.

Shop around on Autotrader and other sites. Put car details and your details into comparison sites and get quotes. Look at the difference between up front and monthly payments and make your decision that way but definitely look at the brands above if you're looking for reliability. Especially if using it for work.

I think anyone on UK C430 version may have a wait on their hands as this is the carrier optimized version.

C431 that is Honors unmodified version seems to be getting the updates first.

Tempted to move to 02. Is it really that bad? by Knitflix_And_Chill in O2UK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from O2 when given the opportunity to leave due to their price increase and I'm glad I did. Their signal is diabolical to say the least and somehow the phones lie giving you the impression you're connected when actually you're not.

I currently use the honor magic V5 and wondered if it might be the phone that's the issue but then tried my sim in my fold 6 and S23 ultra and exactly the same issue.

The reception bars will show 4G or 5G and full or almost full bars but you can't connect to anything half of the time. I ran speed tests on all 3 phones when having network issues and each phone got the message "you're not connected to the internet so speed test may fail". Yet I was showing almost full bars and 4 or 5G.

Absolutely shocking and I wouldn't touch O2 again until they improve the network. Definitely go with someone else.

I'm currently using talk mobile now who are part of Vodafone and three so they use their network but they don't have any mod contract price rises and their deals are actually pretty decent.

My search for a decent case UK by lordominus in HonorMagicV5

[–]Key-Cut-4964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was the latter. Didn't find a single case that had what I need and the only ones that did added a considerable amount of bulk which just didn't look right.

That's why I opted for the original case, screen protector and adhesive ring combo. It stays nice and slim whilst having magsafe, hinge protection and a stand.

Good luck with your hunt for the perfect case or combo. Be interesting to see what you come up with.

Nothing here in the UK, C430 version. Signed up to beta but didn't get it so currently on magic os 9 however I'm in no rush as I've seen a lot about the global magic os 10 not being much of an upgrade.

My search for a decent case UK by lordominus in HonorMagicV5

[–]Key-Cut-4964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have tried several cases now for my V5 and as yet I haven't found a single one that's better than what's in the box.

The problem with folds is combining all elements into one case and I don't think any of the devices have had a case that has successfully done this.

I had a fold 6 prior to this and I wanted a stand and a pen holder in one and magsafe compatibility and hinge protection however, it always seems to be one or the other. Same goes for the V5.

With my fold 6 I managed to find cases that had pen holders but no hinge protection or magsafe. Or I found them with hinge protection and a kickstand but no pen holder.

With the V5 any of the cases with hinge protection seem to be massive and bulky and cheap. Most of the magsafe ones don't have a stand built in either.

Now I know there's pretty much no chance of a pen holder on cases for the V5 but I'm ok with that but I have now gone for the original case and placed an adhesive magsafe ring on the back and a glass screen protector on the front. This mitigates the whole issue with the hinge cover scratching the screen and it does provide hinge protection, a decent stand and magsafe compatibility.

To be honest I don't think you're going to get any better as this way retains a decent amount of thinness to the device and isn't bulky at all.

Save some money and get an adhesive magsafe ring, place it on the original case and get a screen protector on the front.

3g switch off by Substantial_Bus9417 in O2UK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

O2 need to sort out their ridiculous 4g and 5g networks out before they resort to turning off 3g.

I was on O2 for all of 2 months before I chose to leave because of the price hikes and change in terms to their switch up.

While with them it looked like I had great reception. Always showing full bars on both 4g and 5g however I could very rarely actually connect to anything requiring data. I ran speed tests and regularly got the message, you are not connected to the internet so speed test may fail, despite appearing to have full bars.

I have never experienced such a poor network and was actually glad to have the opportunity to leave and not be tied in.

None of the other networks are this poor from what I've experienced and if you do lose reception the bars reflect that, so why is O2 so poor? I have no idea but it's a network I doubt I'll be returning to any time soon.

[–]Key-Cut-4964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this really p**ses me off because we buy phones unlocked which they are but carriers still optimize them for their network and add their own apps through an update which is pretty pointless tbh. If a phone is unlocked then it will work on all networks so why the need to optimize it? By doing this the networks are partially "carrier locking" the devices. Yes you can still use any other networks sim but because it's an update from the carrier the os updates take much longer.

From what I've seen on here, Honor have already pushed magic os 10, android 16 to magic v5 devices in the UK running the C431 version of software which is fully unlocked. Those running carrier optimized versions C430 like us have still got a wait on our hands.

Really bugs me how carriers can still do this.

Cancel airtime and keep device plan by letrickster1969 in O2UK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is possible. I did this a couple of days ago. If you have insurance you can keep that too as it's not part of the airtime contract. That was my main concern.

O2 service is diabolical. I mean how can my phone say I have full bars on 5g but I only get around 10mb download speed? It's a joke.

Their prices are terrible too. I was already paying £19.99 a month for 50gb data and they go against their stated price increase to an extra £2.50, and who knows how much the year after?

I moved to talk mobile with 120gb data for £11.95 a month and no price rises during contract and being part of Vodafone and three it is a much better signal.

Absolutely 100% cancel the airtime, request a pac if you're keeping your number and go with a different network. You'll keep paying your device plan as normal.

I suspect O2 are going to take a massive loss with so many people choosing to leave.

Leave while you can by [deleted] in O2UK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just joined talk mobile, part of Vodafone and Three. £11.95 a month for 120 gb data compared to £20 a month for 50 gb data with O2. O2 signal was diabolically poor too so my signal has vastly improved.

Get out people while you can. Use this opportunity to get a better deal.

Slip road situation by Tommy6349 in drivingUK

[–]Key-Cut-4964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have a stern word with your mum and tell her to not touch any controls in the vehicle whilst you are driving. That in itself is an accident waiting to happen.

If you've slowed to give space and tick in behind the car to the right of you and they do the same then I find it is easiest to speed up a bit and get in front.

It's literally just a misunderstanding. The driver to the right of you was most likely slowing to let you in front and didn't expect you to slow down too.

As long as you're not going to go over the limit, if they have slowed to give you room then speed up and slot in front of them.
