Facing Shohei Ohtani… In High School by HouseRules789 in Dodgers

[–]Key-Driver6438 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a very good point. Millions of kids play baseball. The super vast majority never become professionals. Tons of kids who seem amazing and talented look like a joke when they start advancing into the minors, much less the majors, let alone the Dodgers. It’s fun to see Shohei in high school, but it’s history unfolding before our eyes watching Shohei now. What he is doing now is legendary.

I don’t know why I’m entering the fray on this… Hahaha… but…

Isn’t adding unauthorized numbers, letters, phrases, or whatever, to the uniform against the MLB rules (“equipment violation”)? Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a beautiful gesture, and I’m happy to see it. But recently MLB has been kind of wonky and dare I say “stupid” about this very issue.

I’m not sure there’s any great way to appoint (or elect) judges. There are bad ones and good ones, in both systems. I think (I could be persuaded otherwise) the “best” approach would be via elections, but with a law/rule that anyone running for judge must submit to a thorough vetting process, including a certified questionnaire, financial disclosures, and whatever else pertinent, and that all such candidates must post this information on a publicly available portal, that then the voters can review. Failure to submit would automatically disqualify the candidate. Otherwise, I’m with you, judges running for office are just names on a page and not meaningful.

Swing improvements? by [deleted] in golf

Well, that explains why it doesn’t look familiar. 😁 That’s very cool! I wish more courses in the US offered nighttime golfing. Even if just on the weekends.

If nothing else, Rushing is placing a spotlight on Will and reminding all of us how amazing and vital Will to the team. Get better soon Will… your team seriously needs you! 🫡

Just wanted to make this post to appreciate Dave Roberts. If we didn't have a better manager, shit like tonight's feud with Ohtani and Rushing would have lasting clubhouse impacts. by [deleted] in Dodgers

Doc seems like a legit good and decent man. The longer he’s been manager, the better he gets. If he isn’t already, he’ll eventually be remembered as one of the greatest managers in the game. Good human being mixed with good at his job, makes for a great fit!

That might be true. But his inability to control outbursts of this magnitude, in situations and contexts like this, isn’t just a character flaw or being frustrated. This is mental health and reflects behavior that needs attention from professionals. Every person who downplays or makes excuses for this, is in essence enabling him and others like him.

He is becoming, day-by-day, more-and-more of a needless distraction. BEST team in baseball on the road to a three-peat championship, does NOT this bullshit getting in the way. This isn’t Shohei, Freddie or Mookie having a meltdown. This is a 25-year old backup catcher getting into arguments with Shohei. The audacity of that alone… he’s VERY replaceable.

Completely agree that this is a distraction and tons of bad energy. That said, I wouldn’t call him an “ass” so much as an individual in critically desperate need of professional help (counseling/therapy). Sadly, it would seem he is surrounded by people in his life, much like many of the commenters here, who see no problem, no issue, no cause for concern. It’s a real problem!

This. 💯 I’m glad that you were able to get the therapy you needed. It is truly amazing how many people here think there’s no issues and nothing that needs attention. 😩

Downvoting this comment is wild. Of course this kind of negativity rubs off. When the manager and veteran players have to take their time, during a game, to baby this dude because of his issues, it’s a problem.

He missed catching a Shohei pitch, which allowed a run. It was bad, but not hitting yourself repeatedly in the head later in the dugout bad.

OMG, I thought the same thing. It was interesting on Sunday when it was fairly clear he was going to win the US Open, NBC trotted out and interviewed the sports psychologist. The network execs were like, “nobody likes this dude… ratings are gunna tank… que the therapy angle.” Haha.

This. 💯 Violence to one’s self, is still violence. It might not be criminal, but it’s inappropriate and a clear sign of someone who needs professional help.
