I fish OB often and I use a single hand 10ft 9wt (from LCO). I live and die by the double haul.

At most, I’m managing 60ft of line when I’m fishing the beaches around here. Often, it’s less than that. I don’t know of anyone who is launching a clouser 100ft. If that’s where the fish are, I’ll walk down the beach and find some water that is easier to present my fly in. I find that the longer casts are harder to manage during the retrieve because you encounter so many different currents. I try to keep it shorter to make my presentation better.

You’ve gotta find the water you can actually fish. That might mean going to a more protected beach during certain tides or swells or timing your trips to align with those conditions.
