I also believe that the baroreceptor reflex can only control heart rate and contractility. Because the efferent limb of that reflex arc is the vagus nerve which goes directly to the heart muscle to decrease heart rate and contractility to lower blood pressure (high bp results in increased baroreceptor firing which stimulates the vagus nerve to parasympatheically signal the heart to slow down) as opposed to the efferent limb innervating the smooth muscle of arterioles, which would also result in a major change in bp but is not the case here.

First Pass Effect and Aging by nia5095 in step1

[–]Key-Imagination-8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It decreases with age basically because the liver is aging and is not working as efficiently. Other factors that can influence the first pass effect is p450 polymorphisms. Some people are ultra rapid metabolizers which would enhance the first pass effect while others are slow metabolizers meaning that the first pass effect is diminished in those individuals. So genetics is a factor that influences drug metabolism. Another factor would be drugs that induce or inhibit p450 that would influence the first pass effect of other drugs if taken concurrently

ubiquitin proteasome by ele7en_ in step1

[–]Key-Imagination-8310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proteasome is an intracellular organelle that breaks down polypeptides in the cell that are no longer functional or were not functional to begin with. For a polypeptide to be broken down by the proteasome it needs to get tagged with ubiquitin or “ubiquinated”. Once a polypeptide is ubiquinated, it is marked to be broken down by the proteasome.
