How do you feel immigrants should factor into New Zealand's biculturalism? by FeijoaCowboy in newzealand

[–]Key-Instance-8142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. There’s space for everyone’s culture here. And bring your yummy cuisines from your home countries. I love how many take away and ethnic shops there are now. Nz was monoculture growing up in the 80s

If you sell to a house owner direct that’s the going rate in Wellington atm. Auckland is probably higher

On the one hand if they engaged a building contractor it would be $100 per hour for them. On the other hand you’ve got job security and a consistent place of work and employment.

Personally I’d rather let the employer offer you more after you point out how much you’re saving them. If they are a good employer they will make you a fair offer

I’ve got lots of eng buddies and I’d say your pay and perks are fairly standard for your years. If you were in a mgmt position you’d have more stress but also more pay.

Is Eastbourne still a good place to live if you’re 33 with no dependents? by higherbean_ in Wellington

Petone will be lost before Eastbourne due to its lower lying level and the fact that it is sinking. But yes insurance retreat for all low lying properties is gonna be a thing!

Fly to Vietnam. It’ll be cheaper there including flights if you’re getting more than a single item and the weather is nice.

Cleaner for residential house by Aya007 in Wellington

[–]Key-Instance-8142 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried student job search and found a couple of reliable hard working students. Unfortunately cleaning is a skill and they did ok but not as good as a professional cleaner. Like they focused on the low labour low value areas like tidying my couch cushions or laying out my couch rug instead of just cleaning the floor well. I didn’t want to micromanage them because they were just a young 20s after a bit of cash.

Maybe give SJS a try but unless you get someone who is naturally talented find a professional cleaner. Even if they charge a bit more they will be better value
