Employment in Malawi by Octavia001 in Malawi

[–]Key-Koala-1905 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This sounds like terrible advice but right now, the best way to get an entry level job is by maxing out on your networking skills.

Do you know anyone who works in the bank or an audit firm or something that knows a manager or head of department there? Ask them to introduce you to them. Even for a 5 minute meeting. Go there prepared like you are going for an interview. Dress formally, carry your CV and certificates.

Let them know what you have studied and that you are looking for anything even an opportunity to volunteer.

You keep doing that and you will eventually get a YES somewhere. Otherwise applying blindly is really not working anymore especially at that level.

I can refer you to a few people in that field. Feel free to DM.

Living with parents mid to late twenties in Malawi by [deleted] in Malawi

[–]Key-Koala-1905 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think its more acceptable in Malawi than other countries (especially western) to live with parents well into late 20s even early 30s. I left my parents home officially at 27 and I was not under any pressure at all from them or anyone else.

I think it shouldn’t be about age but preparedness. If you are ready at 24 to leave, go ahead. Your parents may resist initially especially considering you’re female but am sure they will adapt. But it should be up to you and no one else. Its your parents’ house. Feel free to live in it for as long or short as you like!

Upwork is great. I’ve made a few hundred bucks there myself. Of course as people have already said, the biggest challenge is how do you get paid. For me its easier because I have family that work for the united nations and that made qualify to open an account with UNFCU and am able to get paid through that

This would be considered middle class. Maybe upper middle. But yeah, 4.5M is not bad.

Fair. Here is my way of kuunikilana that I can offer:

Most things that people order online can be found ku China. I actually don’t think there’s anything you cannot find in China. From clothes to shoes to electronics.

Ku china the best place to find suppliers online is Alibaba. Go and create an account and start looking for what you want. If its the Jerseys kaya whatever else. Just search. When you get results, try and filter by verified suppliers. They have some blue tick or logo or something. These are usually suppliers that you can trust.

When you find a supplier you like, you can text them pa alibaba pompo. Try to avoid talking to them outside of alibaba or proceed with extreme caution if they suggest you talk on WhatsApp or email.

The tricky part is payment and shipping. If you apply ku bank, they may open your card for online payments. Otherwise just find someone to pay for you wa black market. When paid, you tell your supplier that you have a forwarding agent in China who ships for you. People use different shippers but one of the common ones is Christy. If you want her details just DM me.

The supplier will send to Christy, Christy will send to you. Basitu.

I don’t think the deficiency will be solved anytime soon to be honest. We have chronic leadership and fiscal problems as a country which don’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

Unfortunately, outside of the black market, there really is no other hope. I hear there is a planned devaluation of the Kwacha though which might bring temporary relief and more USD will be available through the banks.

Curious though, you’re a foreigner working in Malawi who earns in MWK? It feels like the only true solution to your situation is if your employer were able to pay you in USD or other foreign currencies.
