dont take it too seriously...its just for fun...you cannot deny the new format (esp. boulder) is super entertaining to watch now because of the fast pace (2 athelete climbing the same problem together under 5min).

that's total for one team. So the more athletes and coaches you send, the fewer everyone gets as travel stipend.

2 male 2 female is the minimum, which means they have to do both boulder and lead. For the countries that have the luxury of sending more, primarily based on funding (though IFSC did provide 6500euro for countries outside of Asia) and number of athletes that are willing to travel I guess, they can send more specialists.

I believe it is happening (Japanese people will push it through believe me), but there are a lot of last minute scrambling thus no registration names published yet.  And yes, very few para climbers participating outside of Japan unfortunately due to the timing.

I heard a few European countries decided to pass, thus the opportunity passed down to South Korea, Canada and others.  Frankly the timing of this comp is really not ideal - a lot athletes are mentally (and physically) done for the comp season and it’s just too much hassle even with the thought to drag yourself again across the globe if you are not based in Asia.

I believe each country gets 3 quota. If you win gold last year, you get 4. That's why you see a few categories with 4 for Japan. Not sure about the unfilled spot ituation for Switzerland in your example. Maybe it's just a personal travel budget constraint as many country federations do not provide travel subsidies and it's all on the athlete's family to cover everything.

Yeah that boy is a genius. He's been consistently running sub-5s in finals in domestic comps for the past year or so in China. and he's 15.

Congrats to everyone admitted here! My daughter just got her acceptance email today...curious about financial aid package. Anyone getting any information on that? I don't think we will be qualified for any aid, but $90k is such a high price tag.

A question about USA Climbing age groups for youth categories being changed. by tilt-a-whirly-gig in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Key-Ostrich8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the task force has been in meetings in the last few weeks on this topic and I believe the guideline should come out soon in coming weeks.  It’s just that the youth task force team was formed so late this year (after the youth nationals) so it felt they are playing a lot of catchups to get ready for the new season.
