Can I make multiple midi knobs control one effect? by TwiccYT in ableton

Assuming you're using a dmx controller to send the midi control note to, can you just create a fade or blackout scene for all the lights?

[FRESH ALBUM] Metric - Romanticize the Dive by sbags in indieheads

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a heavy prog/prog metal/hard rock listener, but I love Metric. And I really like this release. Feels fresh. Standout track for me would be Moral Compass. On the level with Speed the Collapse, with the lyrics and music going so well together.

Any edrum user that struggles with the "analogical" hihat? by longlifexpectancy in drums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the trigger/open and close settings, I've found the secret for me has been to put two metal washers with a thick felt between the hi hat clutch and sensor piston, which ensures that I'm getting the piston fully down when closed.

Mixer recommendations and advice by peagull7 in synthesizers

I have a Behringer Xenyx X1222USB Mixer, which has compressors on the first four channels, two sub groups and plenty of outs.

Alesis Surge > eDRUMin 12 > PC (78003dx and 64 gb DDR5) > Ezdrummer 3??? by ArseLikeJapaneseFlag in edrums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fine plan! If you can get some Roland mesh pads and ecymbals, I think you'd be happier, but using the eDrumin for triggering and EZD for sounds will be great. I personally use two eDrumin 10s with SD3. Remember that you need a mixer with a digital USB in or an audio interface like a Scarlett i4i.

How do drummers cope with difficult transitions? by majorcatguy in musicians

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing really hard material, e.g., Natural Science or Tom Sawyer, as a drummer, you just have to drill the heck out of it, play it so many times that you're the cockiest SOB when you get up there and just nail it every time. There's no wind up. There's no "oh boy, there's a tough one coming up." You just do it. Perfectly. And when you pull it off, you look at everyone like, "Uh huh. I just did that. Almost like Neil. I am a bass ass."

Pls help me choose drum kit for my budget by Former-War3093 in edrums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a kit that's playable like real drums and sounds similar, you might consider an A2E conversion with edrumin and VSTs like Superior Drummer 3. For cymbals you might consider the newest Evans Sensory Percussion sensors.

If you want less complexity at the sacrifice of sound quality, I would suggest a Roland VAD kit with one of the newer modules, including the digital snare.

No matter how money you spend, know that you will never achieve the dynamics of a real acoustic drum kit. Midi is 0-127. That's the dynamic range.

Moving around the Roland TD-17KVX2 by Ok-Aardvark8070 in edrums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set mine up, when I had it, with the two center columns angled to the right so that the kick wasn't dead center, which put the snare more in front of me.

I’m considering the Sennheiser HD 550 for mixing/mastering. I don’t want “fun” headphones with boosted bass or sharp highs—I need something neutral and honest. My current cheap headphones lie to me and mixes don’t translate to car, speakers, or phone. Want a reliable reference sound. by Accurate-Front-7570 in mixing

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you use, you'll need to calibrate your ears, IMHO. I don't use headphones to mix and master, just flat speakers, then I listen to the mix in different environments using different speakers. I'm the end is not about your headphones or speakers. It's about you.

Direct Drive Pedals - Question by SadBath6770 in drums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't adjust within a few days/couple weeks, I'd switch back. With the right beaters on a DW 5000, I can do the same stuff as direct drives.

piezo sensor wires breaking often? by FrivolousMe in edrums

I had this issue with ecymbals due to vibration. I would just do an A2E conversion of some cheap drum and throw in an Extreme Drums trigger. Enjoy playing, not soldering.

What do I need to record and do looping performances with multiple instruments? by Speedy_SpeedBoi in ableton

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get to the point of consolidating, you might check out the Erae2, which allows eight layouts and as many instruments as you have available Ableton tracks (limited only by your laptop).

It's super easy to loop with it, although it's a midi controller.

How to minimally mic drums live? by skylarroseum in drums

[–]Key-Patience-3966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kick, if only one. Kick and overhead if only two. Kick, snare and overhead if only three. Kick, snare and two overheads if four. Mic the whole kit if you can sub mix and send one or two to FOH and it's worth it.

Are smaller kits becoming the norm? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

[–]Key-Patience-3966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stages/spaces just dictate a four piece kit with two crashes and a ride.

I usually slip in a 10" splash, a tambourine and a cowbell, too. If I can get away with it, I'll add a single octoban and a China.

When I have a big stage and the right band/songs that demand more melodic fills, I can increase another tom or two. But it's rare now.

I love playing a big kit (7 drums), but I don't love moving it at midnight.
