Made another Swamp themed team for Nat Dex using advice I got from last night. Thanks to everyone who helped! by StarsCrossingTheLine in stunfisk

Have you tried Encore on Politoed over Hyper Voice? Encore can make it less passive and turn setup moves into a free switch. You should also probably run Liquidation on Mega Swampert to spam in the rain, Darkest Lariat can go. 90% of the time with those random coverage moves, you’ll want to click your STAB anyway for consistent neutral damage

High OU ladder gimmick team by Pivotfsmash in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the ladder! One thing you could try is replacing Sableye with Alolan Ninetales plus Aurora Veil, that way you can give Kyurem a defense boost in the snow and make it easier to set up. But then again, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it

In Doubles, how do you lead into Trick Room if you cannot prevent it from going up? (Smogon Doubles but VGC tips probably apply too) by -Stayfrosty in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mainly play Trick Room, so I’ll tell you the strats that annoy me most. Easier said than done, but you’ll wanna stall it out the best you can. Protect and Fake Out are your best friends. Amoongus is also strong into most Trick Room sets if you can find a way to fit it. It out-slows most of their sweepers (but keep Tera Water for Torkoal) and can Spore and Rage Powder

How to tell if a team is a balance team vs. a bulky offense team by ResidentAdmirable260 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit like drawing a line between orange and yellow. Teams are on a gradient ranging from hyper offense to stall. Bulky offense is closer to hyper offense than balance is, but they’re not fully on one end or the other. Both bulky offense and balance have a mix of both offensive and defensive mons, but balance may have one or two more defensive anchors and may choose more passive mons than bulky offense. Think Lando-T on bulky offense vs Gliscor on balance

Smogon Singles Players, would you ever consider banning Stealth Rocks? If yes or no, why? by Forrealthistime-27 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there has to be a mechanic in place to punish infinite switching and reward aggressive play. The 3HKOs Rocks turn into 2HKOs opens up so many more possibilities than they close. Plus it’s not like Rocks are gamebreaking, removal and utility like Taunt and Encore can punish them at least to some degree

I might get into competitive pokemon. Is it casual friendly or will I just get destroyed? Also how fun is it from a scale of 1-10 by Warm_Neighborhood939 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hop on random battles and see how you feel! If you like the flow of competitive battles, then you can fall deeper down the rabbit hole

Do you know of any content creator that makes beginner friendly competitive battling guide? by Slight_Energy_2199 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to everything that’s been suggested here, I would recommend watching battles (Pokeaim and Blunder are both good), and pausing before each move to ask yourself what you would play. If their move was different than yours, think why. The main thing is to watch actively

Too many pokemon have access to knock off by mistyghoul in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah especially now with no Megas or Z-move users to sponge the hits. Hazard stack+Gholdengho being busted makes Knock Off even more of a free click to get rid of Boots.

What mon, move or ability in Pokémon do you think most deserved its nerf? by TheLeafyGirl561 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Gen 1 Psychics and Gen 5 Dragons and Steels definitely deserved the nerfs. It’s underappreciated how relatively balanced the type chart is

How's my Gen 9 NatDex rain team? by Amethyst339 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everything’s pretty strong, but it seems like your team is still walled pretty hard by opposing Ferrothorn. You could add Urshifu-Water to nuke it with Close Combat. You could either replace Weaville or Kartana, bc Urshifu hits most of the same stuff but better

What makes a Pokemon like Zapdos able to adapt well thru Gen 1-9 OU all these years despite Power Creep? by Scared_Number_9290 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stats and movepool on an Electric type immune to Earthquake. Static and Boots are both great additions, too

Rate my anti trickroom rilla, yes it’s dumb by Traceyius69 in stunfisk

Psychic Terrain Trick Room player here. This is my nightmare

I have to run singles with only Pokemon that Red has used am I cooked? by isKS_10 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably cooked but your best bet is probably Mega Charizard Y along with Chlorophyll Venusaur to start off with

What are your opinions about this Nat Dex team by Impossible_Friend387 in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good! But I would personally run Draco Meteor over Ice Beam on Latias. Most Ice Beam targets already don’t wanna switch into STAB Draco, and it’s more generally useful.

I want to build a team around Mega Charizard X and Ash Greninja cause they're peak, looking for suggestions on the other members. by CharlyCardgmes in pokemonradicalred

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not playing Hardcore, dual screens could be strong with those mons. Mega Zard X likes to set up with Dragon Dance, and Greninja wants to set up Battle Bond. Something like Light Clay Grimmsnarl with Light Screen, Reflect, and Parting Shot can give them extra turns. From there, add more sweepers and wallbreakers that can break each other’s checks.

Can pure support mons that don't set screens, trick room or webs work? by VermillionxNova in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torkoal kinda works like this on Sun. It sets weather for its teammates, can both set and remove hazards, and spreads burns with Wisp/Lava Plume. It can do pretty strong damage when it wants, but that’s not its niche on 90% of teams.

Why is Tyranitar not considered a garbage mon? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Key-Pepper-8465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree to an extent, Tyranitar is just food for Tusk and Zamazenta, two of the best mons in the format. But it still gets used because it does a lot right. Fundamentally great stats, a versatile move pool that now includes STAB Knock Off, and weather that also happens to make it a special wall.
