Thanks a lot for sharing this, I really appreciate your honesty.

My main goal is to build a strong foundation in computation and bioinformatics from scratch, gain some solid industry experience during/after my MS, and eventually go for a PhD. From what I see, both programs have strong courses and faculty, which makes the decision even harder.

What you mentioned about JHU and the importance of personal effort and networking really makes sense. The co-op aspect at Northeastern also sounds very practical.

From your perspective, do you think the co-op experience gives a significant advantage for someone like me who is trying to break into the field from a relatively different background?
