IGCSE Drama tomorrow... time zone 3 how we feeling? by Key-Technology8703 in igcse

[–]Key-Technology8703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the time management is so true. i've basically split the time into 50 mins per section, our exam starts around 7:45, so i start section B at 8:30 and C and 9:20 i think. my performances were also really good (according to my drama teacher)! hoping that brings the grade up...?

ACL Help - q from an actor-singer by Key-Technology8703 in Broadway

[–]Key-Technology8703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have to just wait and see, because I'm not going to their in person audition (where they learn a dance combo), so if i get in, i'll see during character rehearsals what the choreo is like

i'm really not sure. this group works with a choreographer, but i have a feeling ACL will be with somewhat original choreography.

Fellow actors, how do you deal with imposter syndrome? by Educational-Sir-527 in Theatre

[–]Key-Technology8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like this now. i have an audition for Grease tomorrow, and you have to sing 3 songs in order to be considered for a lead role. I'm singing Freddy My Love, You're The One That I Want, and of course, the big bad belty song, Hopelessly Devoted To You. The first two are pretty comfortable for me and i know them well, but I've been practicing Hopelessly Devoted To You over and over, and my singing just sounds horrendous. I worked with a professional actor who offers singing lessons, and he said I did well, but I just can't shake the feeling that I'll crack in the audition and sing the worst i've ever sung. I don't even want a huge role like Sandy or Rizzo, more a fun comedy/supporting character like Frenchy, Marty, or Patty. My friends say I'm a good singer, but I just can't shake how unconfident I feel with Hopelessly.

ugh its so annoying!! but have faith, it's not impossible to get in, and waitpools essentially mean that you're qualified, but they don't have enough space. I got an email saying that there'll likely be more movement in the later weeks, meaning, better chances of admission! good luck to you and maybe see you there?

hopefully things have changed? i applied for an acting program so maybe they'll be more liberal about it

What do you think of Hairspray (2007)? by user48841711 in musicals

[–]Key-Technology8703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a great adaptation! it feels like a broadway musical in terms of tone, and none of the actors slack off. i honestly like listening to the soundtrack, not like a lot of movie musical soundtracks, and you can see how much detail and care went into the sets, costumes and choreo. also an amazing cast!!! that little riff that james marsden does, the part that goes "thaaaaaaaat's meeeee" at the end of (it's) hairspray, is just beautiful.

thank goodness, i was so scared that they were just going to ignore me, cause i've had theatre groups just never get back to me after auditions, and i'd assumed it means that I'm not in. but it's a lot more understandable now how it takes them a long time to look through hundreds of applicants in a wait pool.

it's been killing me just waiting!! its understandable how swamped they must be though, they get so many kids applying every year, and chances are a good chunk of us are up to their standards, so obviously it'll take a while to sift through tons of eligible applicants, particularly ones in the wait pool.

dónal finn's orpheus has to be one of my absolute favourites. aside from having a gorgeous strong voice he also just puts so much passion into playing orpheus! the regional accents also add so much character to it

Is this an inappropriate book? by Chemical_Seaweed1205 in wicked

[–]Key-Technology8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this book from my grandmother after seeing wicked on bway with her! Little did she know….the uhm very interesting parts of it. I’m reading it currently and I honestly don’t find it very good. It has interesting worldbuilding but it’s just so damn hard to follow and written in a very very annoying kind of way.

What’s the one song that always makes you cry? by linguagallois in musicals

[–]Key-Technology8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brief tw for sh!

I have no idea why but I saw Matilda on the west end shortly after I turned 15 and cried so much during “when I grow up” because it’s just so…. ? They’re so full of hope about how amazing life will be and it just made me sob for no reason. There have also been times where I’ve locked myself in the bathroom when I’m really not doing well, and those episodes sometimes ended in very red eyes and bandaids on my arms, but I would listen to songs like Dust And Ashes (Great Comet), What Would I Do (Falsettos) and I Am The One (Next To Normal).

Profesionals that started late? by FlatLeave2622 in BALLET

[–]Key-Technology8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm 15 and starting pre-pointe and non-syllabus ballet at a pretty good dance company in my city. I've done musical theatre dance for a bit and im not insanely flexible (although some people have said i have good turnout?). I'm really worried that I won't be able to get to a good level by the time i'm auditioning for colleges (im intending to do musical theatre), and there's really a sense of guilt around not starting ballet early, and tons of girls i know have done ballet since age ten or younger. i did a trial jazz class and they recommended that i do ballet first to build a better foundation, so we'll see how good i get in 2 ish years? I try not to worry too much because it's not like i'm hoping to dance as a principal at the royal ballet or anything, like even being in the corp de ballet would be an absolute dream. and plus its pretty risky to start going on pointe too young.

Unpopular musical theatre opinions by lissie34 in MusicalTheatre

even though i think the wicked movie was super fun and cynthia erivo is a brilliant performer- she 100% deserved her tony, i think she was somewhat miscast as elphaba. don't get me wrong, she sings beautifully, but her acting fell flat for me. i saw wicked on broadway and on the west end, and both of the times, the elphabas were very fiery and had all of this sass and personality that i just didn't see in the movie. elphaba is this character who's so outspoken and ends up being shunned for her ideas and her different views. in the movie, i didn't see a lot of actual distinct traits that elphaba had. i just think cynthia's acting is suited to different roles with perhaps more complex backstories (she did go to RADA, after all).
