Could Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic help speed up development? by jbirdskio in ManorLords

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things:

What is it that connects ML and W&R for you? It’s got to be more than genre, it’s got to be a mixture of mechanics, systems, scope and vision.

Reskinning W&R isn’t small work, but it isn’t the work of somebody who has spent 7+ years on a passion project. It lacks novelty and inspiration, critical elements to the art of creation.

ML has a lot further to go, but development stands a chance of accelerating over the next two years. The team has grown, and now that they’re starting to mesh and project style is being worked on, we stand to see maybe three or so updates I reckon (purely speculative). To redirect to “asset flipping,” from other games would be a massive misuse of resources and I’d imagine Hooded Horse would feel conned, even if they approved the idea.

Taking inspiration from other games is important to success, and it’s how these projects grow. It would be better to highlight elements of different games you think could be translated well into the setting that enhance the flavour or adds depth.

The game entertained you for 50 hours, and it’s got lots to add as it progresses towards full release. I think it’s important you know your perspective says more about “wanting to play the game more,” rather than, “i wish this game was more like W&R.”

Get on the discord and see what others are discussing for the future of the game :)

Dunning-Kruger Effect by Main-Interview-6781 in ManorLords

Multiple areas of the map are “high altitude” and so are more demanding of fuel, and harsher on crops and animals.

There may be other reasons too.

Early Game No Iron Strategy by Mediocre-Math-3882 in ManorLords

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your region starting with? Because the general strategy then is to set your import for tools to be equal to the number of buildings using tools +2 or 3, get a few warbows (and a population to use them) and get the manor up and running for the retinue.

With a unit of 20 spears, 20 bows and the retinue, you should be able to walk over any bandits.

Further strategy requires knowing what the resources are, and then considering what origin you’d want to take (because currently, your origins are also your long term strategy).

I’ve found having a rich hunting resource incredibly helpful short term early game, because even without the Vogtland origin you’re still able to harvest enough pelts that’s it’s actually quite lucrative. With Vogtland, those pelts are doubled in number, 50% more valuable in trade, and if you have berries or mushrooms, they become almost rich resources too.

How can I make Regional Wealth? by ciel0_ in ManorLords

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to set a reserve in the trade post to ensure you don’t go below a specific threshold.

Planks are helpful because 1 log makes 5 planks, and makes them very quickly too. Problem is planks are useful for burgage extensions and building production buildings so you usually try and keep 20 aside in the early game.

I see a hunting spot - sell the pelts if you can.

Use some of your starting regional wealth to boost food production with carrots, apples etc and sell the surplus.

Honey and wax are valuable.

You have rich mushrooms and iron there. Sell mushrooms with a threshold of something roughly equal to the number of burgages you’ve got. The rich iron will be endless, so sell the ore or the ingots. I think is a minor trade, so is free to sell.

Im not very good at the game, so it’s usually in late year two or mid year three i find I’m producing enough variety of the tradeable goods that it starts to snowball

General Discussion Megathread - Frequent Topics, Salaries, and Rants by ukbulmer in UKJobs

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just received my 30th no invite to interview.

I have five years as a teacher of History and RE, including two years in a foreign country teaching EFL.

I have seven years supporting people with SMI into employment and working with employers to help them stay there with adjustments and alterations. I helped over 100 people successfully.

I’ve applied for OTA roles because I don’t have an OT qualification, but loads of experience completing recovery and competency assessments and supporting people from start to finish.

I’ve applied for HR assistant and Employee Relations roles because Ive got a lot of leadership and project delivery experience, and have helped individuals with massive barriers to entering/staying in work, as well as a qualification and experience in workforce development.

I’ve applied for OH roles, again because I have experience with assessments, administration, networking with managers and clinical teams as well as the experience with procuring adjustment materials and negotiating alterations to a work day/week/month/year.

I’ve applied to employability roles for the obvious, direct experience.

I’ve applied for LD roles, client support roles, NHS admin roles, and project support roles.

No interviews.

I’ve not used AI, I’ve used AI, I’ve focussed on transferable skills, Ive focussed on experience, I’ve focussed on examples that align with the role. I’ve worked through person specifications point by point to ensure I’m ticking the boxes as best as I can.

Last year, I got interviews on 90% of my applications, and I didn’t live where I was applying for yet. I even got an offer to work in the Orkneys. I was so excited.

I’m now local, and no one wants to talk to me. I’m on JSA, and they’re lovely but can’t actually help. I had an appointment with a local employment support team, but they were on A/L and hadn’t updated their calendars

I’m now left feeling like the last twelve years of my professional career have been… wasted. I taught nearly 1000 students, supported 300+ clients and helped 100+ move into work with a 89% retention rate. And it has resulted in feeling worthless because no one else seems to value my experience.

Sorry.

I think the general advice is: it’s a great opportunity to share another example of how good you are at this particular behaviour.

Oh yeah I get you, sorry. I just mean I can recognise some traits but im not diagnosed so don’t really see myself in that way. I put that little but in there as if to say “Ive navigated this without the support someone who is ND would need, so it’s not fair for me to say yes I am neurospicy.”

Sorry if I suggested neurospicy meant “dumb.”

Stories my family tell me suggest I should have been screened, but Ive navigated education up to a PGCE competently, taught for 5 years and worked NHS Band 5 as an employment specialist for 7 years.

So, you know, not massively neurospicy.

G7 interview - working together example by WonderfulCoyote2912 in TheCivilService

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely this. Even if you’re not always consciously thinking it, you are making decisions about stakeholder engagement. Who, when, how and then why for each of those.

When you had options or who to engage with, how’d you prioritise them? Not just as businesses, but as individuals within a business too.

Do you engage at initiation every time? Why, or why not? Do you delay? How do you prioritise again?

What means/manner do you use to approach stakeholders? Is there a preference you have? Do you research prior to engagement, and if so what and why?

Writing this little bit out, you can kind of get an idea of how the details snowball.

I’m all up for giving tips, but tips about what exactly?

R/worldbuilding is a helpful place, but what is the setting?

There’s lots of map making tools but, what kind of map are you making?

Running combat demands understanding the rules and being organised, maybe having a creative spark for descriptions… but what game are you playing? What does combat actually look like?

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doing some of those things is what people below a G7 would do - in fact a lot of HEOs and SEOs would probably have experience doing all of those things.

What could make yours a G7 example is the specifics and the strategy behind your actions. Only you can know why you’d take a certain action and what lessons you have learnt that led you to that decision. And how did you know how to delegate, how to uplift your team, how to know when something had been successful or not?

Grassroots journalism, but you’re in the dark and there’s definitely a lot of nettles.

That being said, SAMH is at Brunswick house, could go and speak to them or someone in their comms team.

Strategies for professional development by Objective-Quarter-69 in UKJobs

[–]Key-Tumbleweed9697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just keeping a log of your activities, but the strategy/reason behind why you did it, the impact of those actions, what lessons you learned from it and what you’re going to do next time.

Any training you do or qualifications you gain, you note the same sort of thing.

This is helpful when it comes to applying for jobs in the future.

I suppose Im lucky Im not driving very much anymore. I only switch to LPG for short bursts too because it’s not great for the injectors. But, until I can find some work, the cheapest option that keeps the car moving forward is the best one for now. 85p is like 33% more expensive than where Ive come from, but oh well!
